Wrap Up Warm

Nauti - lol

OK Neil, that's a rosy-cheeked day ahead!

Important news though - winds are light and conditions should be fair.

Sincere thanks for the weather updates!

Next, will re-post list once we've had a dekko to see who might be out!

Crisp Crimbo Weather For Motor Boat People

Folly Jolly Sunday 16th
The annual RIBnet Christmas Run to the Folly
See first post for details!

OK This Trip Is On!!!!Bruce we've tried to put the details below but please post or pm other suggestions

Commiserations to those of you who could have made last weekend but not this Sunday. Understandably, in homes all around the ringing sound of 'you're doing WHAT?' can be heard as the Christmas rush is on and we all succumb to the glitzy jobs.

So, The Folly.

A brief description from the website to whet your appetities. They are expecting us and we will give them a better idea of numbers when we edit the list later :

The Folly is a rustic pub perched on the banks of the River Medina, just up the river from Cowes in Whippingham, with lovely views from a large beer garden and patio. The Folly Inn is easily accessible by road or boat with its own mooring attracting a large number of both yachtsman and motor boat people (sic) along with tourists and visitors to nearby Osborne House. A friendly river taxi "The Folly Waterbus" can transport you up the river from Cowes.
History has it that The Folly originated from a barge that ran aground whilst selling illegal liquor in the 1700s!
Today The Folly Inn is an extremely popular open plan, destination food house ...

As it will be very (very) cold it won't be a great day for waiting on the water. So the suggestion is to buddy up with another boat (post or pm) and run straight to Cowes for 1.30. Moor up for a moment or so to have a hot coffee (we will bring a flask etc.) if weather is clement and then run up the Medina to The Folly. Food is served all day. Our only time pressure will be preferred departure before the light goes. We are contacting the local Harbourmaster today to check on space & ferry crossing. Hope this sounds like an OK plan but don't hesitate to post other suggestions as appropriate! (Pompey People we are aiming for The Lightship at 12.00 to kickstart the day with a coffee or two!)

LIST : still needs amending! Some names have been down for yonks and people may have changes of plan. Others may like a last-minute join in

I've succumbed to one of the many bugs going around, so I'm cancelling my plans for tomorrow to spend the day warm and dry.

I believe another boat from the RSM fleet will be joining you (Dave Rymer + daughters) so please make them welcome.

I hope you all have a great day.

Andy

Last weather update:-
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/...?zipcode=Cowes

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3471

Met office Inshore forecast, Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis:-
Wind East or southeast 4 or 5, occasionally 6 at times.
Sea state Slight or moderate.
Weather Mainly fair.
Visibility Moderate or good.

So mixed forecasts on the wind side of things - will just have to wait and see.

Lee on Solent high tide is about 3pm, so the run from Pompey to Cowes will be with the tide (or did I remember it the wrong way round?)

I'll be out with my Dad (so Jackeens, it's Neil + 1), and Nos will be joining me (not sure if Sixy is coming cos I forgot to ask!). We're going to aim to come over to Pompey for 12, but if wind is bad and the run either way is not nice, we'll head straight for the Folly, as there's no point in going mad, and an extra hour or so in the Folly ain't going to kill anyone

We (myself and the better half) are intending to come out to play tomorrow - boat is moored at Fareham so the tides fall about right for us. It will be our first ribnet trip so be gentle with us! Have made it to a couple of Church meetings a few months back but new job & other commitments have got in the way recently. Looking forward to this and hopefully a few more trips over the winter should the weather be kind

Everyone have an enjoyable and safe trip tomorrow, sorry I couldn't make it and as I sit here on the works computer wishing I was in a hotter climate enjoying a cocktail on a secluded beach with RIB anchored just off shore.....Then I wake up

Take some good pics of the day and don't forget to post some here so that all the good folks that can't make it can see what you got up to.

Thanks Andy sorry the date clashed with your work but last weekend was a howler!

It was cold in the Solent area today and if the wind's easterly it will be very nippy tomorrow also. Drysuit and thermals weather really !

Will do a penultimate round-up post in a minute when we get together all available details.

For some reason Metcheck has gone crazy. Most forecasts show about 13 mph westerlies. Lee on Solent shows nearly double that.

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/...=lee+on+solent

Lets see what happens.

Cheers Noddy. Never too late to update! We will post an ultimate list before we go!

Thanks for weather Biggles. It does forecast a bit blowy although the Inshore Solent forecast on Metcheck is still showing F3-F4. It should feel very parky so if anyone's in doubt, it should be a lot more comfy on the sofa today!

Regret that we too have succumbed to seasonal bugs and will be unable to make it - even though boat in water and ready. Very sorry to miss what would have been our first Ribnet run. Here's to the next, hopefully! Have a great time.

Western Solent

Assuming no stop planned in Cowes for Coffee, I will (on my own ) be leaving Lymington Yacht Haven (Fuel quay) at 12.30 en route to Folly. Would be very happy to have a 'buddy' if anyone is coming from the West, but no need to make a special trip!!
