Solent (Probably Yarmouth) Sat 16th Feb 2019
The weather's looking good for Saturday, so in case anyone else fancies joining me I'm planning on a run out from Southampton on Saturday - probably aiming for Yarmouth for lunch (it's low tide at midday(ish) so no good for Ventnor, Wooton Creek or Newtown Creek).

I was thinking the same looking at the forecast, hoping to get the RIB in and come up to the Solent from Poole, in which case might see you at Yarmouth!

I usually aim to leave Southampton Dry Stack at about 11 or just after, so get to Yarmouth about midday.
Normally monitor VHF 16 and CH 8, + mobile 07840975807

Sadly cannot make it for this weekend. The engines have been serviced so Grey Mist is ready for the upcoming season.
Have a good run and look forward to joining you next time

Looks like I'll need a head start then.

I’m intrigued, having spent many, many glorious summers days in Newtown creek what's the issue with low tide? The estuary doesn't fully dry out and access is fine all states of the tide, yes at low there's some shallow bits but the main channel and surround anchoring areas are fine 24hours a day? Just an observation................

But at low tide you can't get the boats (or even a dinghy I think) up to the quay at Shalfleet to get to the pub!

The pub at Shalfleet ( the New inn ) closed about a year ago. It’s down the road from me and won loads of awards for its food, shame

Ah ha, that would explain why I couldn't see it on Google Maps earlier!
Thanks for the update Lee - I don't think I've walked into Shalfleet village since early last year, so hadn't realised The New Inn has closed. A shame, as the food was always amazing.

Sorry we missed this in the end. Launched the RIB fine first thing in the morning, popped up to Town Quay to get some diesel ready for the trip to the Solent, and got stuck there for 15 mins while they reversed a commercial freighter onto the wharf... Then had a great passage through the harbour at speed (only in winter!) and out to Bournemouth Pier, but when my wife took over the helm there, we were very down on power coming back onto the plane, so rather than continue all the way with a problem, afraid we about turned and headed home! Have been changing the fuel filters in the dark this evening but that doesn't seem to have fixed it, so need to investigate further.
I hope everyone that made it had a good day out - a shame it wasn't as sunny as the last few days, but still great to be on the water.
