Wiring's being tested...engines sorted and the ribshine is emerging from the Christmas Stockings Ribster longjohns are coming out of the airing cupboard Someone has even repainted his sink by accident in an effort to be ready Zapcatter Dudes are gathering and once again it's time to hear the growl of the raceboat engines

Time for the Solent Shakedown Spin!

Harbour authorities in Yarmouth and Cowes are quite happy for us to call in
(and in such numbers )

Will post updated list and suggested times tonight.
The minute anyone has a reliable (as far as possible ) weather forecast...please post here.

Great news all of you

Part 1 Update. Solent Shakedown 12th March.

An update shall now be attempted. Please check carefully and advise of errors/omissions asap. Thank You!

Over 30 craft will be in the water. Weather dependent!
Despite its brill size this is a casual cruise !
  • Yarmouth H/M is perfectly happy to berth/raft that many boats on the wall. They were very helpful.
And they are cool if we cancel due to weather too .
  • Similarly at Cowes... got a very welcoming response and we are advised that the pontoons by the Redjet are well able to cope with our group. Also cool if cancelled. They will also do a group rate on the day (Will get back to Yarmouth for same )
  • Both H/masters have our contact no's.
  • The King's Head in Yarmouth can do a hot lunch (limited menu tbc...chips n stuff)for ONE O'ClOCK on Saturday. This affects launch times.
  • Next post will put peeps into launchsite groups in the hope that each small group will look after each other...perhaps with one person being a contact for each group? This should streamline comms a little.
  • Then we can do an exchange on mobiles and perhaps use Chn 77 as usual.
  • So a suggested departure time should be as near to 10.30 as we can all make it to allow for delays, meeting other groups, a mini muster at Calshot etc.

Part 11 Update Solent Shakedown Saturday 12th March (& Sunday )

Groups according to launchsites Please check
  • The aim is to go out on Saturday with Sunday in reserve. Even if Saturday goes ahead, many peeps will go out again on Sunday. So please hang in there for definitive Sunday plans .
  • NNB If a boat is to be launched please allow extra time to get to the destination and if possible pm a few peeps cos most are willing to lend a hand
  • If it's cold ( ) please bring warm stuff: gloves & headgear especially. Extra gear/spares are often needed .
  • As with all casual spins skippers are responsible for their boats and need to look after their crew (whose safety and comfort are a priority) but we have an unwritten code of looking out for each other too.
Saturday Solent Shakedown East to West

Please can you add the RIBnet 'handles' to the list so we can PM each other?

I have no idea, for example, who Julian Lyas trades under on RibNet so cannot offer / seek help on coordinated launching.

Thanks

Bruce

PS Also MMSI's. I am dying to try out my Navman in a safe test environment without upsetting any professionals!
PPS Will be bringing my heavy duty digital camera. If anyone wants some photos - assuming it is half decent weather - I am happy to oblige. Please PM me to express an interest. Who else is bringing a hi res camera - cos I would love to see Far Fetched in action from the outside!

Thanks on behalf of everyone for all Mr + Missus's hard work so far!

Agree with Bruce about RIBnet names and MMSI's, but this will soon become a full time job for Missus!

Don't want to add to Jackeen's workload. If anyone on the list wants to PM me in the next 7 days with their real name and their MMSI (if they have one) and their mobile (if they want to release it) then I will republish the list as a table, or, if people generally prefer, PM the list to those who have corresponded with me.

Whatever, I think a mini-database of Solent based RIBs comprising real name (or names), RIBnet handle, mobile phone (optional), MMSI, home location would be a useful resource that we can be accessed by us all - possibly as a link from the rib.net home page.

Or am I treading on people's toes regarding privacy. Don't want to upset anyone, or increase people's workload.

What do people think?

Cheers

Bruce

Seems a good idea

I don't think people in essence would mind but you are tailor making a list of potential punters for any traders browsing the forums!

Why don't you have MMSI and e mail and then everybody could e mail there phone numbers to keep in contact with eash other.

for the rcord my name is Stuart Hopkins!

Happy to collect whatever data people want me to collect. Agree with Stuart's comments about the list being used to sell (pester!) us all. Emails would also be useful.

Whatever data people are willing to release, please PM to me. I will then see what sort of take up we have and whether it is something of value or not. Then we can negotiate how to realase it (if at all). For now I treat it as 'in confidence' unless someone contacts me wanting to contact someone else for the 12/13th Spin.

Deadline for reciept: 7 days from today - ie Wednesday 9th.

Cheers

Bruce

Bruce,

I'll be out with my D70 so will try and get some pics of Far Fetched.

I wouldn't publish email addresses on here as little crawler things will pick them up then its spam spam spam. I get spam from having my elementphoto email on my website. If you want to publish email addresses, maybe replace @ with "at", this should stop the automated thingies i think?

Cheers

Tim
