weather forecast for saturday

"Still the odd shower, although plenty of dry and bright weather after early mist clears. Maximum temperature 11 deg C (52 deg F). "

Might be able to keep up with you DJL, similar sized boat, but not sure about MIKE

DJL
Do you ever launch at Warsash, I live near you in Woking and keep my boat near warsash, not a bad place to launch

What are your plans for the day ?

matiboy,

I will be staying in Basset, Southampton tonight. I have only ever launched from Hythe in Southampton water. Could meet you at Warsash by boat or car. Its probably quicker for me to launch at Hythe and RIB down.

Didn't really have any specific plans for tomorrow, only decided to go about an hour ago, tomorrows plans of moving cookers got cancelled .

Hi guys if you are all out in the Solent tomorrow, maybe I might see you, I'll be sailing in a boat called Sigmadon, you can't miss us as we'll probably be going backwards.

Daniel, I am definitely one to mind my own business, but is there are specific reason why you launch from Hythe, Bassett is really quite close to the launching points on the Itchen, it's certainly a lot closer than Hythe by land.

OK, Daniel, Phil and Stuart. I’ll look out for Matiboy, Bummble Bee and Sigmadon, (saily thing). Hope we can all meet up. Monitor 16! Probably lunching at the Folly! Can you get the saily thing up there Stuart? (Don’t reply tonight. Off to bed now!)

Mike

ended up doing the sight seing tour down Hamble again ! after launching at warsash at about 12 ish, took my dad with me and at 74 he wasnt keen in going over to the island in the winter

think my prop also needs attention as kinda spinning not propelling

solent looked pretty flat did you have a good day ? get around the island ?

it was certainly very pleasantly mild and the sun even came out a couple of times

Mike got any pics of your inboard machine

We launched from Hythe about 10:45. After cruising around the Southampton/Portsmouth area until 1ish we decided to go around the IOW. I didn't see another RIB all day.

Very nice day out, great weather. Started to get a bit misty about 4pm. Got some great pictures of the needles light house.

Stuart, to be honest Hythe was the first slip I tried in the area and its pretty good - free, good parking, great slip and its just at the edge of the 6kt speed limit. I have heard that the slips up the Itchen are prone to car crime? Have you tried any of them, got any recommendations?

daniel

how long did it take getting around, how far is it,how much fuel did you use, allusefull info for others who may want to have a go like myself sometime

look forward to seeing pics in gallery

ps warsash is a good place to launch with lots of charm and character plus you are straight out to sea, can be a pain trying to park in summer as gets busy but would recommend trying during the winter, probably nearer if you come down A3 from cobham than hythe

was great last weekend when recovering, got swarmed by loads of young ladies in tight wetsuits recovering their dinghys after racing , great scenery

cheers Phil

IOW

I believe its about 50 miles all the way around. It took us about 3 hours and we used 25L of petrol, but I was taking it easy as the engine hadn't been totally run in.

I would recommend giving the eastern tip of the IOW (Bembridge) a wide berth, there are loads of lobster pots with very rubbish buoys which are now the same colour as the water

If you see any buoys like the one below around St Catherine’s Point, be aware that it will be trailing about 25m of floating rope behind it as we discovered

Phew, busy week!

Sorry we missed each other at the weekend. I launched from Camber Dock in Portsmouth Harbour, but it was about 12:00 before I got away. Had a quick look at the old boats and a few of the Navy ones and then headed out to the Island and up the Medina to The Folly for lunch. Great weather! Pretty well flat calm with just a bit of chop. Sunshine even! After lunch we headed towards The Needles but it was, by then too late really for a round trip and the forks of lightening in the distance didn't encourage it either! We turned around just past Lymington and headed back to Portsmouth. Got there about dusk and pulled out. Only saw a few RIBS all day!

Distance around Island, according to my MapSource CD is 57 miles, allowing a bit of space between you and the island! Still to confirm my fuel consumption but I won’t have used much!

Matiboy, you asked about my new RIB.... Photo is here! Off to be over-wintered on Monday..... Try to meet next season?

I was out on the weekend, kept waving and calling to every rib that passed and saw about 6 diesel ones. Mostly Scorpions, It was pretty calm this weekend and at one point we touched 4 knots undersail. Thank goodness I was in good company or I would have been bored

cheers
Stuart

4 knots - wow!

Yeah, sorry I missed you. I did look at all the sailing boats I saw, (and there were lots), but didn't see one called Sigmadon!

Oh well, try again in the Spring!

All the best,

Mike C
