Solent trip round the IOW July 16th

Solent cruise round the Isle of Wight...weather allowing for the family laden boats.

we could arrange to meet up at around 10 am at calshot or a venue more suitable. depending on tides etc

lunch can either be BBq's on a suitable beach or at a pub

Perhaps stopping at a few scenic places along the way or calling into some of the better spots around the island. would be good for locals that know some beachs to show the best spots etc....

Some have expressed an interest in a cruise of this type, no rush, not a race, feel free to add info or comments etc

Sounds like a plan.

I will see if I can get the some mates to come as well with their boats.

cool, nice to see we will have a few of us, makes for more fun, just hope the weather is kind.

i certainly think some watersports are a must on the day as well.

feel free to post ideas of where to stop etc, or where to visit and spend time, where to lunch.

will pull together an outline trip plan that hopefully works for everyone based on input.

perhaps we can get one of the ribnetters on here who has just done their day skipper and passed with flying colours to help with the trip passage plan!!!

I'm always up for that. Its usually dead calm round at compton or a sunny day.

right these forecasts are allmost certain to change but here is the forcast for the 15/7/2006 yes i know we are planning the sunday and this will be available after 30/6
here goes

wind at 6am 3.2mph from south west
part cloudy and temps around 15 oc

as i said from this far out quiet usless but it will be interesting

as for the trip lets make this as easy as possible for everyone if newcomers would like to join in then we will make this ideal for them

as for water sports i have never partaken but we should have plenty of time to send a few hours on the south of the island to do whatever anyone wants to

Looks good to me - would love to join. Might have to travel down on the Saturday afternoon though, depends on start times, launching sites etc. Have never done the solent, so would be good to go with others.

I'll keep an eye out for more details.

Cheers

Neil

Thanks for the update on the forecast, as there will be a range of boats and potentially a few kids coming along then we should have a leisurely trip with lots of times to regroup and sight see.

If going right round the island then make sure you have sufficient fuel etc as it is a good few miles.

Should be a lot of fun

right a update on the potential weather for the family trip on the 16th july 2006

temps between 21oc and 25 oc
wind = 6mph north easterly
weather= sunshine and showers(mainly dry)

quiet a settled forcast with a high pressure over scandinavia giving us northeasterly winds but mild as these are being drawn from the continent.
with so many high pressures around i think we could be fairly confident on good conditions for our trip .

Colin, cheers for that, you are a star intepreting the weather for us

Everyone,

for lunching arrangements it could be either visiting a pub for lunch on the isle of wight or we could do a bbq or sarnies or chips whatever at a town on the way or a beach with facilities somewhere.

a bbq on the beach would be nice but may take a chunk of the day etc so perhaps it might be best to stop somewhere and folks can make their own arrangements etc, sandwichs or chips or pub lunch.

when we stopped on the pwllheli trips we just called into a town and everyone cared for themselves, some had sarnies, we got chips and a pub meal etc etc. Feedback was to allow around an hour then folks can please themselves.

any views or feedback on preference would be great otherwise we will stop at a town/beach with food places for an hour and take it from there.

i think if we can plod round the island seeing all there is to see with plenty of stops to regroup as everyone will cruise at different speeds that is the best option and hopefully everyone will get the most enjoyment out of it. we can then return to a beach after getting round the island and folks can spend the rest of the afternoon or evening there or others can get off home if time is pressing for them.

Also when in a large group it makes the day so much more fun all travelling together, quite a sight for others watching too.

If you have never been round the isle of wight before then get a chart of the area to familiarise yourself with the waters or many of you will have chartplotters so hopefully you will be fine for navigating round any hazzards etc.

interested parties so far on a cruise are:

slimtim
tim m
STOXS
pete L
ian m
benc
adrian c
hannah
cracker
neil harvey
nauti buoy
matt h
julian
cjl plus couple of boats
Us

so a total of 17 boats currently which would be superb

tentative timings are

ready to leave calshot area at 10 am

stop for lunch around 12 ish

Round island completed and back to a beach by around 3-4pm ish for a relax and some folks can get away if time is pressing
