All
Just a warning at this stage.
This event may need to be cancelled or changed significantly at short notice next week.
I must stress it is only a possibility at this stage, and follows a conversation I had with the Lightship managers earlier today.
I have taken the decision to post this, as some may have heard that The Lightship has been closed for a week or so now, and are not sure they will be able to open by next Friday. They will however know for sure on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.
To be fair to the people involved I cannot put the full story up on this public forum, but will PM it to all those who are supposed to be coming.
I think it is also fair that we do not cancel our booking at this stage, as a booking for 30 odd people Friday evening may make a difference to events early next week.
I can assure you that the current managers, who looked after us so well last year, are doing all they can to honour their bookings.
Rest assured I have not cashed any cheques, or passed on any cheques made out to the lightship yet.
Any commitments I have personally made are also covered should it all go wrong.
As mentioned, the full story will be sent out by PM later when I get home. If anyone else is interested PM me and I’ll copy you on the situation.
Nasher.

Simon hi,
Thanks for the update. I think we have to wait and hope for good news Tuesday morning, but thank you for organising and trying to keep on top of this.

Sad News - X-mas Bash
Dear All
It is with great sadness that I have to announce the cancellation of the X-mas bash.
As you all already know the Lightship Restaurant has been in receivership for the last couple of weeks, but the current managers Lynn and Joe have been trying to buy it.
Unfortunately this process has come to an end today for them.
The boat is to be dry-docked during January and February 09 for essential repairs, work that should have taken place earlier this year and was postponed due to a mix-up with the dry-dock facilities.
Funding cannot be raised that will see them through January and February with no revenue coming in from the business.
The boat will be back after the work is completed and all are hoping to get the restaurant up and running again soon after this. There is a very slight possibility that someone will open up between now and the new year, but is highly unlikely, and certainly not by Friday.
Having spoken to a number of members the general opinion was that they would rather cancel the event short term.
Over the next couple of weeks I will consider a couple of intertesting different venues I have up my sleeve and post some possible dates for the end of January.
Lynn and Joe have asked that I convey their sincere apologies for the inconvenience, and thank all the members that have been their customers over the last three years.
I must add that this is not their doing, but that of the owner who hasn’t paid the bills despite the restaurant being profitable.
They, the chefs, and other staff of course find themselves with no income at this difficult time of year and have my sympathy. They are both absolutely exhausted and utterly disappointed that their hard work has come to this.
As previously mentioned I have not cashed any cheques or banked any cash from any members by way of a deposit. I will of course return the cash and cheques ASAP. If anyone is happy for me to incinerate their cheque please let me know.
The x-mas bash will return – a bit late.
Nasher

Simon
THe net result has been the same amount of administration/effort for you but with no result.
Thanks for all your efforts, lets see what other venues for a new year alternative?
The Indian restaurant at Southsea marina?
cheers Paul

Nasher,
My heart felt thanks for all your stirling efforts. It will be a great loss if we are to lose the Lightship as a venue. Myself & Kathryn have enjoyed many a happy hour on the deck supping a cold one or two
I will definately will be thinking of those who will be without this xmas.
I for one will be happy for you to keep my deposit and I am sure you will find us an alternate venue albeit in the New Year.
Once again many thanks
Kev & Kathryn

That's terrible news, having been out of work recently (start new job at the weekend ) I really feel for the staff of the lightship who have always been a welcome sight when damp n cold...
Nasher thanks a lot for all your efforts, and have you considered for the new year the Lifeboat or Folly Inn in Cowes, as alternative venues; nice places to RIB over to from all corners of the Solent, and easy enough to give lifts to people...
Well, Merry Xmas to all, and a shame not to see familiar faces before then, but we'll have the boat in the water so hopefully see some people out on the water in the next few weeks

I'm sorry I missed the Church last Monday now!
Is there a possibility of another get together at the Churchillian a week on Monday, but instead of just a drink and chat session, to get there a little earlier and have a meal too?
All would be welcome of course.
Then perhaps we could work out a little end of year cruise to the Folly or beond if the weathers looking good.
Who's up for it?

Andy, Nasher,
Gets my vote, Just wonder how many can make it as it's a bit last minute at this time of the year.
Never tried the food at the Church but as its familiar we should give it a go.
Next Monday 15th or 22nd? What say you all?

Guys
I'm quite happy to meet up for a pie and pint on either Monday but wouldn't want to arrange anything too formal, more along the lines of an extra monthly get together.
I would check how busy the restaurant is though as on Monday we had a problem even finding somewhere to sit it was that busy.
Nasher.
