South West Ribsters do RIBEX 2006

Quite Fancy RIBEX this year followed by a trip round the Island.

Provisional Plan :-

12/05/06 (Late Afternoon / Evening) Drive to Lymington or similar.
12/05/06 (Night) Catch some sleep in travel lodge or similar (or in the car if I have to)
13/05/06 (Morning) Launch boats and store cars and trailers
13/05/06 (Day) Travel over to Cowes and spend the day at RIBEX
13/05/06 (Evening / Night) Moor the boats in Cowes somewhere and get fed, rested and watered (not in that order) in local accommodation.
14/05/06 (Morning / Day) Breakfast and then round the Isle of White stopping somewhere for lunch.
14/05/06 (Afternoon) Back to Lymington or wherever we launched from - recover boats and drive home.

Any one else fancy this trip - of course you don't have to be from the South West for any of this (except the drive back to cornwall)

Hell! some long way innit?!!
Bit like that time Jeff had to take that caravan to London. He'd never bin' past Exeter before. Jeff was headin' up the 303 with the caravan on the back gettin' some worried. Eventually he thought that he must be near London by now. So he pulled over, wound the window down and said to a bloke "Excuse me, is this London?" The bloke said "Yes" Jeff said "Lovely" pointed at the caravan and said "So where d'ya wannit?"

So you reckon you'll have all that wiring under control by then?
Well give us a little toot on the horn as you go by, and we'll wave as the lights come on! Hit the bilge switch and the GPS goes bang!! Key the mike on the VHF and the engine trims out!!!

Are you related to the Arab Royal family or do you have a company fuel card Roy?
I fancy it Roy, I'm not good at long term planning though. Will check diary later in the year.

so the answer is, wire everything up, check which switch operates which item and then do a swift bit of re lableing!!!!

get your diary sorted out or are you not up to towing that little distance?

you can then meet all the solent doggers!!

Yes don't be put off by the South West Ribsters part of the thread title. The more boats we have on this trip the the more fun we will have and it would be good to see some Ribnutters from far afield.

I have spoken to East Cowes Marina and they say they will have no trouble fitting us in without any bookings needing to be made at that time of year. Cost will be around £60 for a RIB up to 8 meters for the 3 nights.

I chose the travel inn as lots of rooms are available so we will all be able to get in the same place. After speaking to them they have said that bookings should not be left too late.

Roy,
We've booked the travel lodge.
Did you have to book moorings in Cowes Marina?

Why are we whimping about trailering the boats up? Us hardcore SW Ribsters should go by sea. I'm sure that the Cruser's passage planning skills could easily cope with a trip of such distance. The Race off Portland Bill should be tame-ish at that time of year. Weymouth is a good laugh for a beer and a kip. Maybe have the girls drag the trailers up and tow back. Others could tag along as we head up the coast.
