Southampton Sunday
Planning a run out from the Itchen on Sunday if anyone is going to be around.
Running up to the ski area in the morning (eldest son is learning to ski) and then a cruise around in the afternoon.
Peter

Peter,
Would love to join you Sunday but unfortunately I will be elsewhere in the South Coast area, maybe we can meet up in the future.
I will be picking my new boat up tomorrow and giving it its first sea trial on Sunday in the Hayling Island area. It will be a family event so I don't think we will sail as far as Southampton.
However if you do see a small Avon Seasport Deluxe white RIB crusing around give us a wave.
Maybe we could meet up in the future. I would like to get to know the Solent as I know it has 24hr Slipways (Free) but the thought of having speed restrictions is a bit off putting. When I get my hands on a chart I'll see if its worth a look. Is it far to your Water Skiing area?
Possibly see you in the future.

Free slipway at Deadulous in Lee on Solent with direct access to the Ssolent and no speed limit.
Excellent free slipway on the Itchen at Floating Bridge Road, Notham the council even sends a road sweeping vehicle down it, and thta takes about 10 mins to the no slow zone.
I don't mind a bit or river time I think it probably is good for the engine to wind up and down.
Are you calling your boat Bunty

Sorry Thanks for the info.
I have seen those slip ways on boat launch .co.uk and will probably try them when I get my hands on some charts.
What I am really worried about is people damaging my car when I leave it and also launching without dunking the car but that will be proven soon. I Hope.

Nice one Peter eek:
Sorry for the bum information let me rephrase my statement
Given that a Knot = 1.3 miles then 10 knots per hour = 13 miles per hour
Also given that 8 kilometres equals 5 miles then if you divide 13 miles by five and multiply by eight you get close to 21 kilometre per hour (20.8) but lets call it twenty cos my brain is beginning to hurt.
divide this into 60 (minutes in an hour) and you get three
Therefore it takes three minutes to get to the no slowzone, from the slipway in Lee.
Which is about ten times longer than it took to write this reply DOH!
To be honest you don't want to go revving your engine hard until it warms up anyway.
If this is your first boat then you would do well to contact the RNLI and ask for a free safety check it's good Value and may help you spot something you have overlooked

Nick
The ski area is a little way up Southampton water from where we launch on the river itchen. Free slipway and free parking which makes a good day out.
Perhaps we could meet up some time as we also launch from Itchenor.
Look forward to speaking to you again.
Peter

You've had your Weetabix this morning Stuart, haven't you?
Mind you I doubt whether many of the people that I see out on the water have heard of this little rule - can PWC's go at less than flat out?

Sugar Puffs actually, they are giving away hunny monster mouse mats and I am collecting them for Britts training room, I think an RYA school with Hunnymonster mouse mats would be quite cool. I have only gotto eat another eighteen kilos and well have 6. R U busy KH
yeah I am sure the skiboat zone is less that a kilometre away from the slipway, which makes the rule a nonsense,
I noticed your smilie EEKs worked and mine didn't where's the manual
Ahh that's better

I will watch out for your posts.
Nick.

Wave, ?????????? Are you the local bum information source? I think you'll find the ratio 1.151:1, not 1.3. by gad, we don't want you misinforming the good folk of 'boatmad.com' (I'll lend you 'red book 1' it's a great starting point LOL) as it's not so 'hit & miss' in the dizzy world of hardboating.
P.S. A knot is a measurement of speed, not distance, so 'knots per hour' don't exist! it is nautical miles per hour! now write it out a hundred times and report to me in my office. (100 times...'I'm not worthy')

Not strictly true, and I know how important these little things are to you
Knots per hour is in fact a measurement of acceleration. For instance if it takes a minute to go from rest to a speed of twenty knots (a very modest performance), the acceleration is 1200 knots per hour (which sounds much more impressive!)
I think I've been out in the sun for too long. Must go for a lie down . . .
John
