While waiting for someone with local knowledge to post (hopefully!), have a look at www.boatlaunch.co.uk .

Edit: looks like slipways at Solva and Porthclai would be the nearest.

If you are staying at Caerfri then the closest launch site would be Porthclais but unless you are on the top of the tide you would need to drive onto the beach/harbour and effectively beach launch/recover. Solva also completely dries out. If you are willing to tow to a launch site look into Fishguard and Milford Haven. I am familiar with Milford and the cruising it offers. The main advantage with the Milford Haven area is easy and free acccess to sheltered waters at virtually all states of the tide. You can then decide to remain in the river or go out to the islands such as Skockholm or Skomer. There are a few people on the forum from the area so if you have any more questions post them. I have a boat in a marina all year in Milford so if you want a guided tour during your stay and I'm in the area we'll see what we can do.

Launch Sites St Davids

many thanks for your reply, i had a feeling that i would have to look further a field from caerfai bay, Milford sounds promising my visit in October is to look for a permanent caravan site for a touring van and then trailer the boat at weekends and holidays throughout the 2006 season, i dont suppose you know of any such camp sites that are RIB friendly along that stretch of coast where i could base the caravan. many thanks

We have used the "Windmill" Caravan site just ouside Pembroke , but it's the wrong side of the Toll Bridge. There is a Camping and Caravan Club Site at Honeyborough , just up the hill from Neyland Marina , (which is also another launching possibility instead of Milford ) . Both have enough room for Ribs & trailers but check with them first .

Try Redlands caravan park at hasguard cross just outside little haven. 6 miles to dale to launch, 5 miles to Milford.
Another site is South Cocket in Broadway, again, handy for all launch sites.
PM me and I can advise.
