St Vaast and Alderney 3rd or 4th to 7th Aug 2011
We are planning on another cross channel trip next week.
Probably going on Wednesday 3rd or Thursday 4th Aug from the Solent to St Vaast, then on to Alderney on Friday 5th. Camping in Alderney for Friday and Saturday (to see the torch-lit procession and fireworks) then on to other Channel Islands and bits of France the following week.
All this is weather dependent of course, but at the moment the weather is looking good - maybe a bit flatter on Wednesday than Thursday, but that seems to change daily!
Anyone else want to join us for all or part of the trip?
Trev

I popped a link to here from the Channel Islands get-together thread, hopefully there are still some subscribers to that one.

Congratulations!
Maybe you'll be passing us when we are in St Vaast?

Matt, what are your plans?
We're up for another cross-channel thrash (although not all the way to Paris again!).
We need to be in London for 9 August and should be in Bournemouth for next Sat but can otherwise find work arounds.
Can shadow or ferry ....

If you can postpone 'till Friday then we can probably help either by Vipermax or by car.

Just an update ...
Made it to St Vaast on Wednesday 3rd with a really flat crossing until we got to the Barfleur Race - but that was just a lumpy last 10 miles really.
Thursday 4th went round to Cherbourg against the race (again) - very lumpy so we were glad it was not a longer distance!
Friday 5th - left Cherbourg for Alderney - again our timing meant we were against the race, but arrived in Alderney 5 mins ahead of Martini II.
Had a couple of days camping in Alderney - the Alderney Week Saturday night torchlit procession and Fireworks were fantastic - well worth the effort!
Sunday 6th - managed to get a great weather window for a smooth passage to Jersey where the wind was picking up to a F5 as we arrived making the last 10 miles round the SW lighthouse (Corbiere) a very wet end to the day!
Spent Monday looking round Jersey - Thanks Martini and Erin for your great hospitality!
Tuesday 9th (Today) waiting for the marina lock to open before heading through the Minquieres (we hope through rather than onto) and on to St Malo.
Intending to meet Martini II and Erin in Carteret on Thursday evening on our way back up the coast heading home, and back to Alderney and maybe the channel crossing on Friday - weather dependent!
Photos (though not many) to follow when I can get them off my phone!

Looks like a superb time, wish we were there.
Some excellent handling of ITR in that second vid, really good to see that there was no air when crossing M2's not inconsiderable wake.

Following the great day on Isle Chausey we went on to Gorey (Jersey) to fill up with fuel then across to Carteret for the night.
Having a lay day in Carteret (mostly because the tide is out and we can't get out until 16.30 anyway) and hopefully will meet up with Erin, Mrs E and Martini II for dinner here tonight before they take Pam and Katie back to Jersey to fly to the UK tomorrow.
Rick and I will then bash up to Alderney, fill up with Channel Rib's home made lemonade, pick up my handheld VHF which I usefully left charging when we left on Sunday, and hopefully back across to Southampton in the afternoon. It's meant to be an WSW F4 gusting 5 all day tomorrow so I think full wets and a pre-booking of the chiropractor may be in order.
