Recovery is likely to be longer! Putting the boat in the marina the night before might be worth looking at

Wot about me
Hi Guys, I would really love the chance to out to sea in my ol' rib, I have only ever messed about quite close to land (within sight of land) Ive been a rib crazed nut for a few years now, but Ive never been right out to sea proberly due to not really being to prepared with flares, gps, or radio,('am willing to get what I need) etc, but would be willing to tag along if you guys could just keep an eye on me and let me follow along. If you think this may be a bit too advanced for me, or maybe i'll ruin yer fun a bit - then No problem, I should perhaps wait untill some ones not going out so far & ask them. any comments.
Thanks

I think the minimum spec was somewhere in the region of 5-5.5m capable of cruising at 25knots?
As far as kit concerned a set of flares, radio and either compass/charts or GPS is advised even for coastal journeys along with various other items.
There should be plenty on the forum to be searched on what is advisable but how far you go is up to you!
(if you carried every itme people said was essential you would need a second boat to carry it with you )

Can I make a suggestion?
We aren't all going to be able to stick together once we're away from land, those with bigger, powerful boats may want to get there abit quicker than the rest of us and those more dab handed at reading the sea may make better progress.
I think it would be good if small groups could be put together and make sure every boat is in eye and radio contact.
What d'ya think?

I thought the plan was to stick together as over the distance we will get fairly strung out if we don't?
Alternatively Would a buddy system of two or three similiar sized and performing boats be an idea, each group having a name we can spend the next 5 months argue about what it will be in each group?
Seriously though, maybe we should start organising over the following months into small groups of similiarly sized boats to buddy up to make cover easier. I mean ourselves informally rather than it being done by the local lads, they have enough to do!
I can take care of myself and am not bothered too much about the journey but I can see some folk may be more comfortable if they know someone else is keeping an eye on them and vise versa and it may make things a bit less stressful for GED et al?

As of all the previous trips we will have 8mt Aircraft Ribs Looking after you, on these boats will be medical persons and boat fixers...
At all times we will have at least one 8mt Aircraft rib at the back keeping an eye out.
This is not a race but a family day out and you are all very welcome, but please make sure your boats are sea worthy and you carry all recomended safety equipment.

Might be an idea to state if you have room for spare crew for those that can't get there RIB there on that day but would like to come along. Could use the new Crew section
I may have a spare seat as only someone's pencilled in. Will know better soon.

I've put my name down but been advised to go on a bigger boat for the same size issue reason so you could do the same.

I wouldn't mind some info on this also, the websites I have found on this are not good and something else was hinted at earlier in the thread
