To Hel and back - again
To Hel and back , again
Our ribbing weekend in the Bay of Gdansk was planned about 3 months ago. Weather wise we were not disappointed. We booked our air travel on Wizzair from Luton for Thursday 17th July arriving to Gdansk just before midnight. The hotel was booked till Monday morning and was in walking distance from Gdynia marina We had 3 full days of ribbing to look forward to. In Gdynia marina an all blue Parker 800 Baltic with twin Mercury 150 EFI was waiting for us, as ordered.
It was very hot and the Bay of Gdansk and beyond Hel it was flat as a pancake with just a little breeze. Ideal ribbing conditions . The sea was very clear and once you got in it was quite pleasant .
If you ever go to Poland boating make sure you have all required documents on board ie, power boat certificate, boat registration document, VHF licence and passport . We were stopped by the water police heading along the canal for Gdansk. We were not speeding , lifejackets were worn but the nice policeman said they were not compulsory. After this routine check we were allowed to carry on.
We very much enjoyed the Polish beer and it was an experience having some local brew from Hel a bit cloudy for my taste but not bad.
This weekend is the Red Bull Air Race and it will take place to the right of the marina. You can just about see one of the pontoons.
31 July till 3 Aug is the Polish boat show on the water in Gdynia Marina so if the weather holds I am going to enjoy another weekend ribbing this time with Never Enough to clock up the first 20 hours as a brand new engine is being installed.
