Trafalgar celebrations - Solent - 28/6/05

Is anyone planning to view the event on the Solent on Tuesday 28th June ? I was reading about what is planned. In case you hadn't heard there is a mammoth firework show (10 tons on 1/2 mile of barges). 300 cannons being fired. 16 tall ships sailing off in a fleet.

Anyway it seemed like a good excuse for a run out in the ribs to watch, no doubt it will be a busy place.

If anyone fancies it please post some interest. If anyone has a place where we may trailer the boat overnight that would be very useful (thanks in advance).

I shall post some more details as soon as I have spoken to my colleagues doing the fireworks.

Yes we will certainly be having a look!

We're Porstmouth based & need to check where spectators will be allowed.

I will be there but will be on patrol for the whole week (IFOS follows T200)

For more info see http://www.qhmportsmouth.com/ under Latest News. Don't forget you must have a copy of the Safety Instructions on board.

That's really helpful Pete as we may have some Irish visitors and we want to make it past Whale Island if possible!

Don't think this thread should be under Cruise Planning cos a cruise it certainly ain't going to be. Can you imagine the wash created by 10 destroyers sailing past the review ship at 15 knots south of the OSB (And I can't even nick 'em for it )

I feel that Pendragon could do with a blue flashy lighty thingy to assert her superiority over the rest of the Tier 2 marshalls . MODpol are not too keen on letting me have one of theirs and I had a spot of bother trying to liberate one from our local plod car (case comes up in a month or so ). So, does anyone know where I can beg/borrow/steal/hire /buy one from.

Think Bogib used to know all about the blue flashing lights business Pete. He may be able to recommend one for you!

We shall be checking everything with qhm of course but if there's any spectacular advice please keep us informed. Thank you sir !

So since Pompey is generally closed on 28th we may as well be on the water

Some VIPs of the Irish Ocean Youth Saily Trust will be testing their sealegs on Merlin. If we can get them out of the nearest Bar.

You could well be right Martin and I suspect there could be times when I wish I was watching it on there especially at 0100 on the 29th which is when my duty is due to finish.

We are camping and launching at Calshot Monday through till Friday - Where would be the best vantage point to see the review and Fireworks? Have people booked space to moor or is it a first come first served situation? I have all the instructions etc and even bought a flag?
