i will be in that neck of the woods then and would be up for the trip if it was done in a day!

i am waiting for Alice to come back and comment on my lack of lightweight now

Hugh why don’t you travel down on Friday night, its going to be a total nightmare on the Saturday, its bad enough when its change over day but a Bank Holiday as well "Crickey"

I'd probably rather set off from Falmouth Hugh, which might suit you. It's about another 45min from Fal to Penzance, but it saves a lot of hassle. Loads of guys go from here. It's a nice run around the Lizard and St. Micheals Mount.

Avoid the A30 at Bodmin at all costs! They're building the bypass (at bloody last!

It's chaos and will be worse by then. I'd go Plymouth and fork off at Dobwalls.

cheers for that, i think for this trip down there i will travel thru the night as last time we overslept and left a bit late and spent hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours in traffik

the bugger is i have to make the journey twice, once with rib and once with the caravan,

If you do come down the A30 Ive marked in the two main bottle necks.

Now I dont know about the temple route as Ive never used it but it looks good to me on the map.

The Bodmin one Ive used quite a bit, it does get a little narrow in places but no worse than the run down to Mylor Harbour.

Ive marked the back road in Red and the potential queue in red dots

Will your wife not tow the caravan? Or the rib if its smaller/ easier to tow....

It's miles of cart track. I'd avoid it with a boat on the back.

My mum used to tow my boat all the time, but your probably right, it is 6.5m.
My favourite was watching a young mum in a discovery drive into an underground car park (with height restriction) with a roof box

Lucky i was't tailgating her!

Mine took the height restriction barrier clean off with a series 3 lightweight LR once.

Having done Exeter .to Falmouth and a few other up and down routes in the last week , i can't think of a good way in or out of Devon and Cornwall at present unless you are on a bike .
The Liskeard bypass has a contraflow with one side closed for half its length , that will caus a back up to the bridge
there are new roadworks at Bodmin where you join the A30 , they have put in a pedestrian crossing there for christ sake
Then there is the new by pass going through Gossmoor and on the other side the big roadworks at Oakhampton on the A30.
Not sure if the A38 is finished yet at Ashburton .

I can see the whole of the 2 counties with one jam from exeter to truro .

As for the caravans , oh I best not go there I have a soft spot for them , somewhere near where I ride my kTM

not sure if she can tow either really
the rib is 6.5 m and the whole length is 8-8.5 m total and it cuts corners a bit so have to take care round roundabouts, but is solid as a rock when behind being towed at speed

the caravan is around 7m long with double axle and it is fine but can sway in a strong wind however and i am always cautions down hills

so for her first towing experience neither are really that suitable and both are a jump in the deep end. If she does tow then if she has the landy and the boat and i take the caravan behind mine then that would be best i would think

but just not sure yet..............

It would seem that the weather predictions for the bank holiday weekend are blessed with light winds - but cursed with low temperature and showers.

Low temp and showers would not make it nice , but light winds are a good thing .

The sea state matters most to me . My little SIB is hard work in a short chop and I don't think the family would enjoy a pounding like that for 30 miles . Hopefully it will be a longer swell , but I guess I won't really know untill the day .
If its not good for the crossing we intend to stay around Falmouth area and do a few day trips maybe camp on a beach .
