Up the Dee to Chester
Feb 12th 10.00ish on West Kirby slip (Wirral). Tow out to moorings and on the water 10.30ish. It's a 10m tide, high water 13.30 so the aim is to follow the bore up the Dee over the weir and tootle about, pub lunch, shopping (ladies ) and a good blast back for recovery 15.00.
Great company, good fun....what's stopping you?

A pal of mine.......
.........who lives on the Wirral (Simon Wickens) mentioned that one of his pals (Tom Price) was doing something very similar in Feb, is it the same cruise ? If so, I may just be interested if I can get my pal to launch his 4.8. If not I'd have to drag mine back from Abersoch.

It may well be, the 'Rib Rally' has been running for some years and involves all the local sailing clubs (ie their ribs!) when not otherwise in service, plus a collection of NW Ribsters. old sea dogs and general nutters who don't feel the cold anymore

We have always wanted to try this trip and are very interested. We are however a bit concerned about the launching and recovery at West Kirby. Do we need to be or, will there be some 4 wheel drives or tractors to help?

Sailing club tractor will be doing the business, it may be because of the amount of interest that we will have to bring the time forward to 9.30 so all the boats can be towed out!
Details to be confirmed such as launch fee / contribution to club funds??

Gary gee, Hawkerj, MeMe, Ribster Rache, Tony B,Graham H etc.
Hey its looking good for at least a dozen ribs for the Chester invasion.
Hope the weather holds up. For those with smaller boats, don't worry if there's a bit of chop, there's plenty of support around and the bigger ribs can't go too quickly on the way up to Chester or they will run out of water!
I guess it would be wise to meet up before launching commences so all can be briefed on sandbanks etc. and best way over the weir. Will post times etc soon

luncvh on the 12th
I've checked out the 'Boathouse' for lunch. The manager has agreed to let us tie up and leap into the beergarden from the river! I have a copy of lunch menu, the idea being that we phone in our orders prior to setting off so they can have it ready on arrival
If the weather is just about reasonable, ie a bit blowy and raining, we are still going. Gales and blizzards, forget it
If any of you have partners/family members who fancy the Chester bit, but without the boat, ample parking at the pub...come and join us for lunch.
The Boathouse, The Groves, chester CH1 1SD tel: 01244 328709

Confirming arrangements
Hi folks
I'm hoping to firm up arrangements tonight so will post up details over the weekend.
For those of you who are definately coming (if the weather holds up), could you pm me with contact numbers. We don't want to leave anyone behind for the sake of a few minutes delay but don't want to hang around if you aint coming
Phil

Deetox - how much water will there be over the weir when you are planning to cross it?
Not sure whether we will be able to make it, but just in case!!

how much water will there be over the weir
Hopefully enough. We've done it a couple of times on similar tides in a 6m rib.
We will check it out when we get there 'cause you can never guarantee conditions.
If it's iffy for the larger boats, we will probably anchor/tie up by the road bridge, downwater from the weir and either hitch a lift with the others or walk the couple of hundred yards to the pub.
Suggest we all meet by 9.30am at the sailing club slip. Space to park up trailers but none-members need to park cars on the prom. Remember one-way system! We need to be togged up with boats/trailers ready for tow-out by 10.00am latest
