Tide table for 1st week June, Salcombe?
Anybody got a tide table for the first week of June 2005, Salcombe?
Checked out the houseboats. Great for launching but not much 'own space' (when there are 6 kids.....) and a little too inconvenient if everyone wants to get off at different times - which will certainly happen. Plus there's a 3 year old with us.
So we're looking at houses up the estuary and have provisionally booked Rivermead which provides access to the water (depending on the tides) & is reasonably priced. I'm not expecting to get the boat up there much though - will probably moor in the harbour and chug down in a tender or maybe my canoe! Anyone in Salcombe got a tender they can lend me?!
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Rich L

Hooray!
OK, the family and I will be in Salcombe from 27th June for a week, staying in a house off the estuary (south of Kingsbridge) http://www.devon-online.com/parkfarm/leave.htm . Mooring in Salcombe harbour (I have the last mooring!), taking my inflatable and hoping to get up and down the estuary to the house occasionally, maybe bring the RIB up when the tides allow.
I'd really like to make it up to Torquay for the nationals if possible.
Maybe see some others out?!
Cheers
Rich L

Hi Rich, glad to hear you're all sorted. Having lived in Kingsbridge for most of my childhood and teenage years and visiting regularly as my parents still live there, I would strongly recommend that you drive to Kingsbridge and take a look at the channel there at low tide. Although the channel is fairly well marked by red and green poles from Salcombe up most of the estuary, once you get close to Kingsbridge the poles disappear and the channel is very narrow and convoluted. The first time we boated from Salcombe to Kingsbridge (when I was 7) we got stuck on the mud at the head of the estuary! Luckily we had just moved in to a house in Kingsbridge so we (Mum, Dad, sister, Grandad and both Nans) waded through the stinky black goo, clambered up a ladder and walked up to our new house where we washed off the mud and had a few cups of tea while waiting for the tide to come back in!
Also, we are likely to be down there before June so could leave your Treasure Hunt prize at my parents' house for you to collect, if you like? Let me know if you want me to do that and I'll PM you their address.
Hope you all have a great time - I love it there!

Thats very kind of you Louise! I must have missed that I'd won one!
Yes, I know the estuary is a problem at low tide. I'm going to work out the 'safe times' with a tidal curve when I have a minute. I'm hoping my little inflatable will give me reasonable access. Maybe I'll give walking across the mud a try (carrying a rope tied to a tree or something!)

Yeah, it'd be good to meet up again. Let us know when you're down in the Solent next and we'll try to get out. Would Father's Day be a good time or is that a 'family only' day?

If anyone is coming down to Salcombe, get in touch and I'll see if we can meet up for a beer, cruise, BananaShark ride?
If anyone needs advice or help of any kind - if I can't help you I probably know who can!
I think it's going to be a good summer!

Haven't posted..
in ages! We spend two months in and around Salcombe/Kingsbridge each summer. This year no different. We arrive on July 8.. at the moment I have a blue Ribeye 5.8 (used to be Dave Hickman's) but am trading up. Work most mornings, launch in the afternoon. Usually, we then head off round to Thurlstone, returning in the evening (weather permitting, of course!). If anyone sees us, please shout!

Salcombe ribbing
Any suggestions for beaches/wildlife spotting etc within striking distance of mouth of estuary? Mill beach/Sunny cove is great but not much of a use of the boat! Are Blackpool sands approachable from sea? Also am hoping to get my mother (aged 76 with hip replacement) on board. Any experiences on feasibility (probably not wakeboarding)?

Elender Cove is a nice beach - it's Salcombe side of Prawle point and only accesable by land with difficulty, but good for anchoring and relatively quiet. Blackpool sands is steeply shelving, you have to go around Prawle and Start points to get there which can be bumpy - it's almost at Dartmouth, so it could be combined with a lunch / shopping trip as well though - it's about 15 miles by sea and a lot faster than by road in the summer if you're not in a blow boat of course!

Rob, you're avin' a giraffe ain't ya? Certainly not close in terms of falling out of your tent into the boat... If you're camping in the South Hams area, just choose the closest slip... Kingsbridge Quay, Salcombe (Batson Creeek), Southpool or South Sands. Checkout these slips on boatlaunch.co.uk
Camping? Maybe http://www.higherrew.co.uk or http://www.oldcotmorefarm.co.uk or http://www.karrageen.co.uk I reckon they are the nearest.
