Whitby Sat 31st March
All things being equal, weather permitting etc, we are going to have a run out of Whitby next Saturday 31st, drop the lines over for a couple of hours & maybe have a poddle round Runswick Bay or Staithes. Tides are very neapy HW is 09.21 but the slip should be useable just about all day due to the neapy neaps. Anybody fancy a trip out?

Maybe not, I might be able to make it.
Was thinking of going out on the Humber but if there is someone else going too then I'll consider making the trip up.
Wanted to go out from Whitby anyway, just not planed on going so soon.
When are you planing to launch?

we will be launching in the marina, not cheap, 20 quidish. But it's easy, safe & plenty of parking. We will be frequent visitors to Whitby over the season, Easter is a definite, weather permitting.

That's good to know, sea fishing too I see.
Is that what you mainly go for, what's it like for fish around there?

Plenty of mackys, cod, gurnard, the odd herring. Mainly mackerel which is just as well as they're all I'm good at & I like 'em.

Well that was worth getting up at daft o'clock for. As we came over the top of Sleights hill, we could see the rollers coming into the bay at Whitby. Called into the marina office & was greeted with a friendly "you're not going out are you?" Had a walk down to the end of the harbour & thought "No I feckin ain't!" Coffee & a bun later, it was back to Pikey towers. It was blowing a good F6 from the north, the forecast was for F4 . Si stuck his nose out of the harbour & reported 2-3m waves in the bay. Ah well, next time eh?
It was nice to meet up with Simon & his gang, hopefully we'll have better luck on the Anglesey jolly.

Ey, it was sure worse than the forecast, did debate on going out as I saw the size of the sea but big gonads and off we went into the ebbiss
Recon we did no more that 2 miles and some of them must have been 4m peak to trough
Good fun but on the limit of practicallity really and not something I would wish for come Angelsey.
Good to meet Dave and his wife and hope he gets his boat wet next time

shame you lads couldent get out owing to the weather ,
Thats problem at Whitby is even though its on the East coast the harbour entrance is facing North and theres just about no landfall between that and the North pole , so even on a decent day you can have rollers coming down the North if theres been a storm up there a few days previous .
Best in harbour wishing you were out at sea than been out at sea wishing you were back in harbour ,,,,, my wife will second that she had 2 reletives drowned when the lifeboat capsized there many years ago ,
