I see that on Metcheck we have a storm blowing in on Sunday afternoon.

Anyone got any better forecast.

Thought it was you. You keep the RIB well wrapped up, but I knew it was Searider.

Weather Warning

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread and I understand how hard it is to arrange things.
But looking at www.metcheck.com for the Portsmouth area on Sunday and it looks like a storm is blowing in that day with lots of rain.
Whereas Saturday looks much nicer with lighter winds and lots of sunshine forecast.
Can anyone give a better forecast ?

Sunday is forecast as :-

9:00 hrs 19 °c 4 0.4 mm rain 85 % cloud cover 19 mph winds
12:00 hrs 19 °c 8.4 mm rain 92 % cloud cover 20 mph winds

Saturday Forecast is:-

9:00 hrs 19 °c 0 mm rain 4 % cloud cover 12 mph winds
12:00 hrs 19 °c 0 mm rain 2 % cloud cover 9 mph winds

Hmm....just checked on the BBC and they're saying not great for Saturday and Sunday.

Out with the dry suit and Gekko then!

Hmm. The bbc website says that it will be less windy on Saturday but just as wet (with sunny intervals).

I think we will stick with Sunday. Several people have arranged their weekends around this cruise so it might make it tricky if we moved it to Saturday. That is unless people feel strongly about doing it on Saturday........

I understand how difficult it is to move things but airing this now might give people a chance to make it on the saturday.

I'm just trying to use Ribnet and modern technology to its utmost. Obviously its got to be either the Saturday or Sunday. Saturday at the moment looks a lot better than Sunday. I guess by tomorrow night metcheck should be a lot more accurate.

Obviously we need to make a date at some time and stick to it. Metcheck shows a big difference between the Saturday and Sunday. Within 24 hours on Ribnet we should know what everyone prefers.

I can make either the Saturday or Sunday, although my passenger can't make the Sunday, so looks like I'm backing the Sunday now even though its going to be veryyy blowy I guess I'll just shut up now.

As previously said looks like its Drysuits and Gecko time.

I wouldn't plan anything based on a Metcheck forecast. To be fair, it's not bad at telling you if it's raining right now (although even then it's not perfect) but their forcasts greater than 24 hours in advance don't seem to be too clever.

See you on Sunday!

John

Well we've given it 24 hours now and no-body has voiced concern about Sunday so let's stick with that and hope that the wind holds off.

Tim,

As always the weather forecst is subject to change and it looks like it has changed for the better. So as you say I'll shut up now and see you all on the Sunday.

Got time off work to make the Sunday so its the Kings Head for lunch and then down to the Needles for a play.

Formation Cruising.

Because we are going to have lots of RIBs attending this event any chance we can do a bit of line abreast down the Western Solent. Would make a great photo opportunity. Lets say a cruising speed of 20 Knots for a few miles.

John,

As you say Metcheck is not very good over about 36 hrs beforehand. But it did indicate some rough weather coming in. Usually they get that right and then you have to keep an eye on the forecast to see when its actually going to hit. As with any forecast its only a guide. I wouldn't take it as read but an indication only. I was also using other web sites to get an indication but chose only to publish the sites from metcheck as they were the easiest to understand.

As it is looks like I was erring too much on the side of caution and that the storm has disapated somewhat. It seems quite difficult to pin any severe weather down for a particular period over the weekend now and that the whole weekend is going to be a bit blowy.

In the case of the being the bringer of bad news its good to be wrong on this occasion.

See you all Sunday.
