4X4 rescue mission at LANDMANNALAUGAR

For those of you interested in 4X4 please look at the photos taken by Bergur Bergsson at rescue mission that took place on March 1st and 2nd at Landmannalaugar in south highland of Iceland.

I will not say this is quite common situation but it does happen couple of times each month.....

Will be interested to have your reactions to the photos on here

Great Pictures Bogi! Looks like those tacomas aren't amphibious afterall.

Was that Tacoma and that 80 series Landcruiser on the Cepek 44's modified by Arctic Trucks? Who modied those the F-250s?

The SAR team vehicle was converted by the company Arctic Trucks and is 80 series model 1996, I am not sure who did the Tacoma or 250, in Iceland there are more than 10 companies specialising in modifying 4x4´s

Oooooh!

That's why we only visit in Summer! Not that it saved us from getting pulled out of a river backwards, but at least we didn't have to call the Cavalry on Big Wheels. Pity none of Snorri Gisslason's Landies were in action (big fan here). Did the snorkel work and save the motor of the swamped "jeep"?

Bogi - you forgot to mention that the location in question is, what, two maybe three days hike from the nearest electric light bulb? They'll have been glad of that NMT phone I'll bet.

Willk, now you are getting me into trouble..... I know where Landmannalaugar is although never been there..... I prefer staying close to the waterfront

As I understand Snorri takes his Landies mainly on safe areas.

During this summer most of our highlands are to be GSM connectable so more secure inland trips
