Excellent!
what the hell were they thinking? Running that close to shore with a fixed keel boat? Just asking for trouble. I take it they were on a race but why risk running aground?

I have seen that before - always makes me laugh though.

Looking at the charts a dangerous rock with depth of 6ft IS marked - maybe there should be a buoy over it in such busy waters?

Having said that everyone should be aware that headlands often continue quite a distance underwater!!!

Round the island race 2006

That was during the last RTIR and that was the first boat to hit the Varvassi wreck. http://www.needles.shalfleet.net/varvassi/

When we went through the gap (having all agreed that we wouldn't!) there were two boats stuck on it at that point - the noise as they hit the boilers of the wreck is pretty impressive!

Didn't see a wreck marked on my Bluechart - will check when I get home - isn't there a buoy or something to mark it?

Oh, you know, the one where drysuits and silly hats are banned, and shorts and shades are compulsory.

It's the one that JK secretly lusts after!

OK ,what the hell is a 'Poker' run? As it's listed under the cruise section I assume it's a race or a blast or whatever but there's loads of talk about go kart racing as well Either way there's nothing planned this year till June! Hell even Mollers get's his boat out the barn before then.

The bastard son of RIBnet

Used to be about powerboats, but it's mainly about R/C models these days . . .

A poker run is NOT a race

Basically, there are 5 checkpoints set up, and if all goes to plan, every boat gets between the different checkpoints as quick as they can (or can afford!) and collects a playing card. And then in the evening theres a party, and the collected cards are used as a hand in a game of poker.. whoever has the highest hand wins a prize. But its not about the money, its about getting loads of boats on the water, and having an excellent day! As far as I know, there has never been a bad poker run!

Poker runs can be a great family day out as well, it's never about who gets there first as you get a sealed envelope with a playing card in it so everyone has a fair chance of winning!

Of course if you do get to the card stop first there might be some bragging rights in the bar later ..................

I'd probably give you a run for your money in acceleration and then watch you head off into the distance, haha

What do you top out at?
