I had a Fuego, and a Nissan Sylvia turbo in the early 90s. Troublesome bloody things.
What I really fancied was the rear-engined Renault 5 rally car that was for sale a few years ago at Lockinge garage in Weston.Same as this, but red.

Love it - used to see a green one parked near the catherdral when I was a kid going to school in portsmouth .
But having driven a sporty H plate renault for a few year I'd be amazed if the electrics still work after half an hour.
I'd pay maybe 8k absolute maximum - £20k is just daft - never sell for that much. I'd rather by Lancia Delta Integrale.

Like it ! But I heard they were liable to kill you in very short order unless you were really really really carefull , or a really really really good driver ( aren't we all ? )

Yes, that's why I wanted one
I also had a massive fetish about these:-

So I bought a Fiat X1-9 instead (don't ask...).

Slightly earlier than Quattro's, Strato's (Stratii?) and Integrale's and other such Group B specials, but I had one of these for a while. Great fun but no journey could be undertaken without a backup. Pulling into work one day there was a 'ping' and as the car ground to a halt one of the camshaft toothed drive wheels rolled past, rolled round and round and then settled in the gutter Needless to say, the valves and pistons had had a love in and there was tears all round

I don't recognise the first car and I like classic cars so it can't be that "iconic"
If you want excitement then an old car is the way to go fast without losing your licence. They "feel" fast but aren't, a quite safe way of going 100+ without actually doing so.

Well, unless it's a Stratos or a Group B Quattro

Well it held a certain 'je ne sais quoi' for those followers, I was a fan for a short while, but then I moved on... that era must have missed you Bruce you were probably more interested in wimmen at that time .. .. a common error in a young man

1990ish I had a '81 MGB which I rebuilt from the ground up. I later fitted a slightly "breathed on" motor to it after I burned a hole through one of the pistons.
At this point it then did 120mph+ which believe me was around 60mph+ faster than it was comfortable to drive it at.
Over the last ten years I had had a Dolomite, Mini Clubman, MG Midget (x2) and two BSA Bantams one of which I have ridden to work every day for over a year after rebuilding it. (the other is currently being rebuilt)
Of them all the Dolly was the best car to drive........
I would say a RS2000, Mk3 Cortina XL or an Escort Mexico Mk1 would be my ideal classic car

Still my favourite was a Rover SD1 Vitesse that i had - the last of them - D reg. it was full BTC spec with rose jointed suspension and 4 down draught dellortos. good for 150mph and cornered like it was on rails. Only car i have ever sold and it still breaks my heart.
I saw a black E reg Vitesse which is pretty rare to say the least - may make him an offer.......
Still have my alfa 75 which I love.
Nobody has mentioned the Metro 6R4 - the banned group B before it could get much success.

I think this is a good blend of a classic or iconic car but with modern performance....
