A reminder
I saw this on another forum I use.
It reminded me of a similar thing that happened to us as a family in the 1980s.
we were returning from a couple of days at the coast and my Father was driving his Company Sierra up the A3 towing our Flatacraft Force 4.
To cut a long story short we were forced off the road by a Lorry coming the other way on the wrong side of the road.
We went down a small bank and hit a tree head on at probably no more than 20mph by the time we got there.
Being sat in the front passenger seat my vivid recollection is the dashboard coming at me as the engine came backwards, then a second huge crash as the boat landed on the roof and put a large 'V' in it.
The winch post bolts had sheared and the post was still hanging from the Bow. The 2" ratchet strap through the Transom handles was still attached at both ends to the trailer, and both sturdy plastic handles were broken.
Apart from a few scratches and the Broken handles the boat was completely undamaged and even the 6 month old Sierra was eventually re-shelled rather than written off.
As you can imagine there is a long story involving recovery, but to the real point of me posting this:
The police accident investigator, the recovery driver, and even the company who repaired the trailer as we were not allowed to do it ourselves said that the boat would have been far more damaged had it not come loose.
Nasher.
