Yep its Hawaii, the dude in the film is Laird Hamilton a big wave surfing god. I spent 3 weeks over there in 2001 and some of these guys are from another planet. The locals call these big waves Peahi or jaws probably because if you get it wrong and the wave swallows you up your chances of getting out of it alive are not too good
