Antivirus software

I've just received a couple of copies of a new virus that my antivirus software (eTrust® EZ Antivirus) didn't pick up. I don't normally pass this sort of stuff on, as it's usually a hoax, but this one seems to be real.

Last night, while in his Neverland Ranch, Michael Jackson has made a suicidal attempt.

They suggest this attempt follows the last claim was made against the king of pop. 46 years old
Michael has left pre-suicide note which describes and interpretes some of his sins.

To read the entire article please open the attached document which includes copys of his suicide
note.

It's quite tempting to open it, but don't!

More details are on the Sophos web site here http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/ne...ckotrojan.html

Yep. And it's about to join Norton in the category of "wouldn't touch it with a bargepole" unless they get their finger out.

In a live chat with their techs right now . . .

OK, as another AV provider slides into oblivion, who do you recommend?

Anyone using the ZoneAlarm AV software?

AVGfree is brilliant - don't download the trial version by mistake - the free one really is FREE!!!

Norton is worse than most virus infections - it puts so much crap into the reg it's frightening.

It comes to something when free anti virus software is better than the paid for stuff.

Remember though spyware is often worse than a virus - try adaware and spybot to get rid of them.

Send a message via MSN to Alex Brown
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...n.webus.g.html

This looks remarkably similar to what's been commented on earlier, but symantec discovered it back in 2005

If it isn't the same, then it looks like something similar has been tried before. We use Symantec AV corp edition at work, and I wouldn't change from it. The submission system works very well, and the people you talk to work quickly to find resolutions.

As it happens, the last month or so has seen significantly reduced numbers of virus infected e-mails for us at work - out of around 40,000 e-mails in around 15 days on one of our servers, 130 have been virus infected, whilst around 8000 of them have been picked up as spam either by heuristic or RBL checks.

Well the EZ Antivirus / CA tech support people demonstrated an ample lack of clue. We spent a long time updating various things that didn't make any difference, and then they still couldn't come up with an explanation (or even an excuse!) about why they didn't identify that virus.

I now have a trial version of the strangely named NOD 32 which did identify the virus, and found a few more that had been missed too!
