Any Advice
Hi,
I'm thinking of taking the wife on an "end of season" break to Jersey / Guernsey or both.
Any one local who can recommend a great place to stay, places to visit, nice places to eat? Or anyone been recently and had a good experience?
We are very flexible on timescale and budget and would like to spend 4-7 days.
The idea is for a relaxing time exploring and finding great places to eat / drink.
We will fly out, so do we need a car?
Any help is much appreciated (and I won't blame you if your recommendations fail to deliver)!
Feel free to post or PM me.
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve, I am a real fan of Jersey. I go out several times a year and always stay at Hotel De France. The staff here are great, the spa is lovely and parking is not a problem unlike many of the other hotels.
Europe car is the easiest hire car as they are based at the airport so unlike Avis you don’t have to get on a bus to the office.
If you go, a must is St Brelade's Bay and lunch at Crab Shack, the Pizza express is also pretty good and must have the best view of the entire chain.

We went to Guernsey a few years ago to look at a boat and stayed at Luxury 4 Star Guernsey Hotel. St Peter Port | La Fregate Hotel
lovely position and our room (i cant remember the number) had an amazing view over the marina and out to sea.
wasnt too expensive and the staff were very helpful!
we did hire a car which was helpful to get around, plenty of nice resturants and bars in St Peter Port to choose from but cant remember any specific names, sure someone will be along soon!

I have been to the Channel Islands many times although my last visit must be about 7 years ago. Hire a car from airport or near to it that way you will see more and at your own convenience
I prefer Guernsey to Jersey reason being, Herm and Sark are a lot closer to Guernsey than Jersey, and they are a must to visit. Also I found Guernsey prices to be a lot cheaper than Jersey not sure why that is maybe because Jersey is the main Island
Make sure you try the local lobster
In all the Channel Isles is beautiful and offer decent weather and most of the locals are friendly and speak English. .. enjoy

Dry Run
At the risk of appearing sensible..............
the German wartime hospital on Jersey is an absolute must
also take a small (in terms of boat) ride out to Sark, if it's a nice day, and WALK the whole island
the overall remains of the German occupation were a magnet for me, but they are best seen on Alderney where there are little/no rules about entering the plethora of bunkers, machine gun positions and ammunition tunnels on the island.
You get to Alderney by taking a short ride on an old, small, battered aircraft (which leaks thru the ceiling!!) and gives you the ride-of-your-little-life when landing on the cliff edge at Alderney. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice guys
I think the plan now is to fly to Jersey and hire a car for a couple of days and then go to Guernsey for another few days and maybe take a boat to Alderney for a day.
I'm told that something called "tennerfest" is on in October? Apparently lots of good restaurants do special set lunches and dinners for bargain prices!!!
The planning starts here!
Thanks again for the help.
Steve

Eric, Dry Run, you can't take a boat to Alderney.
It is served solely by that flight I told you about.

Not true anymore, bumblebee cruises now operate between the two.
Jersey or guernsey you won't find much to do "end of season", the weather will probably s***e and everything's twice the price of the uk...

Martini,
How long have you worked for the "Jersey Tourist Board"?
