I've had an n95 since July now and think it's great. The only downside is, if you go anywhere near water make sure it's in an aqua pack. I'm on my third now (thank god for phone insurance) - the first two died after getting wet. The first got properly submerged on the Priory Bay cruise, the second get damp but not wet, bit died anyway. Nokia put indicated paper on the inside of the battery compartment so they know if it's been dunked!

Edit: if you get it through one of the big networks, ring up and get a quote, making a note of the persons name. Ring back later and tell the person you speak to you were quoted a different (cheaper) price earlier in the day by (give the other persons name). I got mine for £100 (instead of £150 with the vodafone contract I have) doing this. I add the first person did actually give me a different price so I wasn't lying, but I don't see who it shouldn't work.....

I had my N95 for nothing - never paid for a mobile in my life. Phone isn't bad but you want to much data charges - even if you don't go on the net it tries connecting all the time - well it does with Orange anyway!!!

I'm curious to know if people use these phones for browsing the web and if so what type of sites are useful for phones?

And are there any RIB sites developed for viewing on phones?

I think web browsing for these phones really is pretty much of a waste of time, the screens are just too small, and the data transfer rates are too slow. Email is about the only thing they are good for IMHO. Because of the size of the average pocket, the phones sizes wont change much I don't think, and web browsing will always be a peripheral service for them. There are other gadgets more suited though, like pmp's and PDA's but not all have phone connectivity, so you'd still need a wireless or blue tooth link with a phone to be able to browse with them.. me I just wait till I get home ...... then fight with the wife and kids to get on

Got to play with an N95 for 5 min today. Better than the T-mobile one i have but was only testing one part of it so didnt get a long "play"

Would love one but cant afford it.

(I have submerged another Nokia. Got wet in an aquapac (on club rescue) then put it in my BA before I went swimming with it!!. Shame Nokia dont repair FOC cos they would be busy with my phones!)

I asked because I just set up Paul Tilley's website and also made a WAP page of contact details.

I doubt very much that it will get hits from mobile users for the reasons you give. i.e. screen is just too small to be really useful although basic info works OK. I don't have a WAP enabled phone so got the local phone shop to test it for me on a 240 pixel wide SonyErricson which works OK.

If you'd like to test for me on other screen sizes, then just put www.tidel.biz into the url lookup on your phone and report back if there is a problem.
Everything should be centered.

I think you have done a cracking job on his site. Although not a web designer I have been working with computers for longer than I can remember and have used the net from the very early days so I think I am qualified to comment.

I NEVER use my phone to surf the net - just too annoying - will check it out on my Ipaq for you later though.

I like the fact it's nice and simple with no stupid flash stuff or tiny frames. It stilll amazes me just how bad some big companies web sites are - and I bet they paid a fortune for them!!!

Glad you liked it. I posted in two places where I thought asking for people to test the WAP phone page would get some response but in both cases there was no response. I think that kind of proves the point that phones are not used for web.

One of my colleagues at work has one for sale.

The only reason I'm not buying it is that it doesn't have the software bundle that "3" ship the 'phone with.

I'll get you a price if you want...

Anyway, whats with the has someone dropped one in the wet stuff? Was it the ginger ninja?

I guess it must be your phone or provider causing that because it seems to work on the phones and emulators I have been able to try it on.
It's not going to work on older phones and phones with a screen width less than 176 pixels it won't look too clever.
Most new phones are using 240 pixel wide screens.
