Is that from the iphone app? does it to me sometimes. You just get "sending" & it hangs so you press cancel & it says "do you really want to cancel" & you think "No I feckin don't but you're the one playing silly buggers" So you press cancel only to find that it's been sent anyway

Bedajim and I are in Selva. Massive snow, we'll whip around the SR tomorrow. Good weather forecast. :-)

Good to hear, Marmolada is slated to open on the 15th Feb. Wave as you pass the bottom of the Burz lift, I'll be watching

Apparently not. An avalanche has taken one of the 'Lada lifts out. :-/

Thinking of skiing this area for the first time for a week starting the 8th of March - has anyone been to both Arabba and Cortina? Wife would like a village with some character and stuff going on in case her old back injury forces her to spend time in the village. Of course any information on either resort is also welcome, especially access to the circuit.

Very different resorts, cookee. Cortina is a big town with poorly prepared, busy pistes, served by an antiquated lift system, while Arrabba is a small expanding village at a crossroads of a busy ski circuit. Not much to do there for a non skier. Selva or Canazei would better suit your potential requirements.
A brilliant ski area, wherever you choose to stay in the Dolomites.

Thanks for that - any reason to choose Selva or Canazei?

+1 You don't go to Arraba for the bustling night life & après-ski. You can walk around the village in 10 mins. Half a dozen bars (Petes bar) & a couple of restaurants. Most of the "night life" is hotel based. The skiing, however is superb, as DHD says, the village is on a major junction of the SR & is the closest access to the Marmolada Glacier, when it's open. We didn't go into Cortina town, so can't comment, but the Cinque Torre (spelling?) ski area is stunning.

Yes, cinque torres is lovely, but you can ski it all in a couple of hours,
We stayed in the chalet above Bar Peter a couple of years back - well handy!

Not me. You'll note the quotation marks. A classic line delivered by a Welshman attempting to buy bombardinos in Switzerland. ;-)
