Barclays Bank

Was anybody watching BBC1 last night?? There was a program called the Whistle Blower and it was about the goings on at Barcalys Bank. I was amazed and dumbfounded that such things happen. It seemed that dishonesty, cheating, mis-representation, fraud, out-right thieving-is the norm for people employed by Barclays.

Has this now become endemic for people living in the UK??.
What a wonderful budget Gordon Brown cooked up.The best juggling act since along time.

It seems so. I'm in the process of taking my bank to court at the moment-they managed to turn one bounced direct debit for a loan into nearly £3000 in fees-all because I was working away from home a lot and was getting the letters about charges late.

NOS that was also specified in the report. A couple were filmed cancelling their account becasuse of one unpaid cheque for 60 quid ( They had been customers for many years - and were on holday for one month) The unpaid cheque cost them 30 quid in charges.- Very similar to you. What a racket.

A few years back went over drawn on an account (about £1k) with out prior arangment. And guess what I got...

A phone call asking if I could sort out this "over site" No letters, No charges. "we know you have been distracted with getting married"

Not all Banks are bad, praise where praise is due.

The new Credit Consumer Act which comes in to effect in 2008 will effectively stop this. All charges will need to be prenotified and a charge will not be made until a month after the event.

All statement will also need to identify the reason for the charge and the interest amount applied.
