A mate of mine who was a successful motor trader in the UK and has now made a fortune in NZ, reckoned that it took one man two days to properly prepare a car. A day on the exterior and a day on the interior.

Easily a day, a lad round the back from me takes the wheels off, cleans the backs of them, cleans the brakes, then removes the innner wheel arch and cleans behind that.

Seats out, carpets out, hang the carpets vertically, spray with dilute TFR and jetwash. The amount of crap that comes out is amazing. Cotton buds in the vents is another.

One splash in a muddy puddle and it's back to the cleaners
Very impressive stuff, but it is very OTT. But if you want to waste your time and money.........

I don't think it is, it makes the car loads easier to clean next time and dirt won't stick to it as easy during normal driving.
Once you've got the car to that stage you just need to keep on top of it.

Well I was kidding about the muddy puddle bit, but not the other bit.
Does anyone know how much this process costs?

80 hours labour + materials + overheads + profit = more than a grand?
Awesome result but I think someone needs a reality check
Anyone fancy that finish on their hull?

For a detail its usually around £500.
I did my Jag, it took a while but the effort was well worth the results. Depends how you look at it, how much do most people spend on mooring fee each year....

I guess the chap cleaning the car must be a detailing "engineer" ?
Cleaning a car is a waste of time & energy, I used to clean my previous car weekly & spend hours doing so, it doesnt add anything to it when it comes to offload time. Car dealers are all robbers.

Makes a difference if you sell privately though!
Although I love my cars I can't bring myself to spend either £600 - £800 having it detailed or spending a whole weekend cleaning it. A good polish 3 or 4 times a year and a wash every other week is about as much as I can manage.
