Best £10 you’ve ever spent.
One of the ladies at work said to me the other day –
“You’re a bloke who likes messing about with stuff, I’ve got to buy my brother a birthday present and I’m stuck, what’s the best thing you ever brought for about a tenner?”
This got me thinking, I’m sure there are lots on here who still have something they brought for £10 years ago, and they still use everyday.
So, what is the best £10 you ever spent?
I’ll start.
About Eight years ago I brought a small £9.99 multitool which is only 2.5inches long when folded up, but is of quite good quality, opens out into the usual pair of Pliers, and includes the normal Knife Blade, Saw, Scrwedrivers etc.
The paint has worn off the outside now and I can’t remember who it’s made by, but being so small it fits easily in my pocket, and hardly a day goes by when I don’t use it for something, even if it’s just opening a box at work. I’d be lost without it now.
The pliers are particularly useful for undoing the shackle that attaches the safety strop to the bow eye of the RIB when it’s on its trailer.
Since I stopped travelling for work and I’m office based I’ve no need for one of the big £100 Leatherman type tools, which if I had one would spend most of it’s life in a drawer.
I’m also minedful of somebody I know, who despite working in an office always has his leatherman and his phone in pouches, a chain to his wallet, plus a Credit/Business card holder and a Pound Coin holder permanantly attached to his belt, and it’s not a good look.
On the other hand, I’m tempted to say the most memerable ‘tenner’ I ever spent was actually Ten Dollars, but that was in ‘The Jungle Club’ whilst I was on Business in Moscow and didn’t last that long!
Nasher.

not quite the answer for you
but the best £20 i spent was on Ebay, on an Ornament.
i suspected it was rare, but was unsure as the photo was so poor, but i took a chance on it.
and i was right. only one of six made!
so i relisted it properly, and a week later it resold on ebay for £1300
does that count?
to annoy you more, i have now done this in various degrees of success three times

no, i would not
i just love surfing ebay for wrongly advertised stuff, and buying it!
i got a porthole the other day, from of all ships, the laurentic. (not mentioned in the advert DOH!)
does not mean much to most, but if i tell you she was a sister ship of teh titanic...
so my £80 outlay ended up £450 ching ching!!
its a sport for me

yes, I feel a little guilty now.
£10?, hard to say, but if you exclude lifesaving spares, I'd have to say this wee puppy has brightened my, erm, nights.

I'll try again! As my last post ended up in the bilges.
Best £10 I ever spent was on a Koi Carp. 5 years after I bought it, my Kids were born and forced me to fill in my pond for safety reasons.
I advertised my Koi and got £450 for this particular Kohaku. So I really did get to see my investment grow.

I bought some fish mostly cheap ones, I ended up with a nice collection of Koi and two Sturgeon, both of which were about a tenner. When my lovely wife bought me the Labrador puppy we decided there were safety concerns and too many pets and the fish had to go - well a guy I know kept Koi, so he had the lot off me including the filters and is doing all of the labour to fill the pond in and slab the area - bargain!

I really like keeping the Koi, but was very labour intensive with the water quality and filters etc. I even ended up buying a shed to house all the gear and a quarantine tank too.
I do miss not having a pond! I'm sure I'll get digging soon, but not a Koi pond as I had previously. A nice nature pond will be nice.

Keeping up the Oriental theme, it has to be said that you lads are mere amateurs, clock this:
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...265504158.html
Family expected to make 200-300 quid on a box of old vases and got €150,000.
nice

Yes - lots of hassle to get the water quality good, I ended up with a Nexus which was fantastic, easy to clean and only required attention once a week in general.I had a big Chagoi that would eat out of my hand and suck on my finger if he thought there was some food to be had!

Random Koi question
Sorry to bugger up Nashers thread, but at the Jade Buddha temple in Shanghai they've got the biggest Koi i've ever seen....They reckon it's over 100 years old (120 ish IIRC)....can that be right?
Hadn't though about it for a while (weird what kicks around in my head), but it bugged me a little at the time...meant to look it up when I got home

Hi Dan,
the oldest on record was 226 i think.
you can age them by counting the rings on a scale, just like a tree
