Best 125cc motorcycle.
Well with my Insurance as well as fuel going up each year I'm thinking of getting rid of our second car and getting a bike. I have been looking at the Honda cbr 125 and the Yamaha yzf-r125. I know that there are a few bikers on here and would just like some of your advice and recommendations.
cheers,
kerny.

Got to be a 125? Is it the sports look that flicks your switch? If it's for commuting etc., it may be worth considering something a bit more upright...

Why 125? A 250 would mean you could overtake the kawasaki ninja 250 is a great low capacity sport bike, Would be much safer if you wanted someone on the back as well
A great 125 sport bike is the aprillia. They have just brought out a 4 stroke i belive although most 125 four strokes lack any grunt and a hill can seriously slow you down. Stick to the 2 stroke de restricted ones, watch out they have not been used for racing though!
Anyway goodluck picking the right bike
Oh and the 2 strokes sound amazing

I was going to suggest a Honda CG125, but it's probably not sexy enough!
I had one many, many moons ago, when I went from field bikes to road bikes. I have to admit, it didn't look very cool ( I was used to my 125s having renthal bars, knobbly tyres and garish graphics!), but it cost nothing to insure, nothing to run (99ish mpg?...) and the parts were cheap as they've been around so long, even Moses learnt to ride on one

Your looking at the right stuff, Yamaha, Honda etc leave the chinese ebay specials alone.
Look for A fairly newish modern machine which hasn't been thrashed by a spoiled teenager.
Better still spend the £500 -£700 to get a full licence and get a slightly older 600cc instead for the same price you would pay for a modern 125 rice rocket.

My first bike was called an MZ. German I think. Christ that was some bike. At the time we lived on a hill, thank god!!!!
Ended up getting nicked when some kid fancied a lift down the hill and wheeled it off. The police found it and took it 15 miles to the depot, passing my home on the way up the hill.
They wanted £150 for me to get it back from the pound. I only paid £50 for it in the first place so I said keep it!
I "upgraded" to a Honda CB 125 funny enough. Which never worked for any longer than a week between garage visits. Still got it now, gathering dust 15 years on. I always wanted a "cagiga" but did not have the cash

Yeah, but the wrong half. A 2 wheeled Trabant.
No one rode 125s in my day as they were in the same insurance bracket as a 225. Prior to passing a test, we rode 100cc trail bikes which were actually 99cc and in the same ins. group as a 50cc.
The Yam DT125LC and Kawasaki KMX125 were the first 125s that could be easily derestricted and had a bit of go in them.
The Aprilia RS 125 is probably the pick of 'em now. 'Fiddled' with, they'll do well over a ton.

Guy's the bike is only for commuting and general running about so speed is not really an issue. I believe the Honda and yam 125 do at least 70mph which is good enough for me. But if I get the bug ... who knows, I might just take my test and go a bit bigger. The main objective of doing this is to save money. ( to spend on my rib )

I had a Honda Cg125 in 82 for commuting into the City of London. Used to get 125mpg.
Had it up to 65mph but too scared to go any faster.
I got the m/bike as my knees went and I couldn't cycle that far any more. The Honda was only 5 minutes quicker than the pushbike over 12 miles but that's rush hour traffic for you.
I still have the bike rusting away - so if anyone fancies a restoration project just let me know.
