Bet coastguards will love this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4640513.stm

Barking or what??? Statues of people on a beach which will be covered by the tide every day!!!

Wonder how many rescue will take place? Wonder if anyone new to the are will go in and try to save them - drowning in the attempt??? Or else people will see someone in the water and think - oh look more statues!!!

Ever heard the one about the boy who cried "wolf"???

On the nail with this. North West news last night

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...de/4672563.stm

I'm all in favour of interactive art, but when the art is so interactive it threatens to kill people I'm not too sure. Maybe the artist is trying for a Darwinian effect - cleaning the gene pool. Anyway thats 5 teenagers rescued in 10 days so its only a matter of time!!

I'm all for art I even did it at A level (teacher didnt "help" me though) but this borders on the bloody ridiculous, pardon my french, what are they thinking of. Still makes a good place to attach a lifebelt to.

That really is the most stupid thing I've seen since the guy who moored to Studland Rock warning buoy at high tide and went to sleep...

No doubt the tax payer will be picking up the tab for about 100 chart corrections or am I being a pedant?

Not to mention the instalation of a new Cardinal buoy, Oh for a few hundred feet of shaped charge, naturally all Ribnet members would be invited to this;

"piece of contemporary performance art comunicating the angst and inner tension of a middle aged man wracked with the inability to percieve the full breadth of a benign Orwellian state"

Barman! Prozac please and have one yourself!

you betcha - last saturday night was at the height of the silly season. Whilst I was out around Blackpool and Fleetwood for persons in danger of being cut off by the tide/an attempted suicide/and a boat with a seized gearbox etc etc Crosby (liverpool) team was tasked to 3 kids stuck firmly in the mud after they had gone out at low water to look at the statues!

Must have too little to do.

So here goes;

100 statues 50 m apart. They must be sat on concrete or something. say 4 hours each to fit - need to be straight etc. say 4 people for each statue and a total of £ 150/hr with all their kit. double that because of cock ups and waiting for the tide thats £1200 to fit each one. plus materials so say £1.3 million to install

bargain I'd say

Oh plus 10 new navigation marks with lights.
