My father's14' fishing boat is called "tough ship"

The exmouth harbour master looked rather odd when we said the name.. Guess he mis-heard!

Two I've seen over the last couple of years have been:

A sailing yacht called 'Betty Swollocks'

A big motor yacht called 'Knight Twicely'
This one had an image of a Knight in armour holding a damsel in his arms.

Oh, and I almost forgot the 14ft Fletcher owned by Davy Buoys sons called:
'The Hairy Clam'

Nasher.

Can't say I'd like to use some of these on the radio, but they make good photos!

You see a few good ones on sailing dinghies. I like "Snap Shackle & Plop".

One of our local boats. I suspect someone played with the stickers and rearranged them but no one has changed it back in years.

Don't be. Renaming goes back at least a few thousand years. The Romans and other civilizations renamed and used captured. Would have been quite insane to have sunk them considering all the time, labor and expense to build a ship back then.
There are many boat de-naming and re-naming ceremonies that can be copied off the web.
Type in your search bar "renaming a boat".

My wife, seeing a picture of a two colour boat in choppy seas, suggested "Wet Patch"...

It can take some time to come up with decent witty boat name,- it took me ages to devise then decide on "Lunasea". Always consider in cold light of day how it it will sound on VHF, and whether it is more tacky than witty, some boat names I've seen are way beyond tacky.

I do like a clever boat name, whether it's an in-joke or a good play on words / spelling.

One I like locally is "Out of Office", my favourite is "A l'eau A l'eau" which is really clever in 2 ways. One I don't is called "Dripping Wet" or something like that.

I agree with the posters who have kept a boat name whether they are keen on it or not...I too think it is unlucky to rename a boat.

I had to Google that, shows my lack of a classic education [emoji849]. Very clever, I’m guessing the VI is the ironic part[emoji6]
