Block them...

With XP open IE page, navigate tools/internet options / privacy/ sites.

Tick pop-up blocker.

Works most of the time.

If you want to see the pop-up then hold Ctrl key when opening.

Very annoying I agree but in all fairness advertising is one of the main ways the site is funded.

Without those it would more than likely cost you to advertise with them.

As Rooster21 says, block them and you shouldn't get a problem... AND you get to advertise for free

mmm, i have the pop-up blocker enabled but it still gets through, i agree that some advertising is always necessary but recently you get a lot of adverts which are of no relevance and they seem to be growing in number.
A few years ago i would go on to B+O everyday to see if there's any decent stuff going, recently though i don't bother as much simply because of all the ad's.

We have just pulled all of our advertising from the site for this very reason. The web site is running slower and slower and I am sure people looking to purchase a Rib are not interested in buying riding lessons or a new kitchen.

I used to advertise with them when Phil owned and ran it, i would have an advertising console that cost me about £25 a month, this was great and the site seem to be alot more efficient back then, it loaded everytime and not too many ads.... different story now.

I've noticed it's painfully slow too-and that popup comes up as a blank screen for me. I don't look there as often now because of it either.

Yes - used to be for Sky TV until recently.

I'm not sure whats wrong with charging people to advertise (or e.g. charging for adding a picture) - assuming the costs are low. Afterall anyone listing there is intending to make money out of it. This would also reduce the tendency for the "scam posts".

Exactly my view, it has been getting slower and more expensive and is now unusable for the trader and getting that way for the buyer.

They lured me back for a three month retrial and it was the worst thing I ever did, I do not think I got a single enquiry from anyone outside of Nigeria.

I know the bloke who runs it visits this site from time to time.

What HAVE you done??? It used to be the best place ever to buy a boat from - I even bought my SIB that was advertised on there.

I know you have to cover costs etc but your site is now a mess - haven;t visisted it for while but it's gone really bad!!!

I don't know of it has anything to do with the above, but I think the number of ribs added to the site had dramatically reduced. I check the rib section most days; a year or so ago you would see a few new boats every day, now there is quite often nothing added on a daily basis.
I think its very sad as B&O used to be IMHO the best place to advertise boats; from memory I have sold every single item I have ever advertised on there. Normally, incredibly quickly. It would be a real shame if it went to pot.

They are getting worse now. I've now had 7 ads for my jetski disallowed with no reason given despite emailing 'Boats' on here AND their admin. Eventually I rang them and the ad was allowed...but as soon as I edited it to put a couple of small details in that I forgot, it was disallowed again...

Just glad I wasn't paying for the 'service'. If I was I'd be billing them for time wasted by now.
