He's been a particularly powerful figure for the NRA though, and despite the recent number of college or campus shootings, there has been no real shift to remove any weapons from circulation. I wonder if that mood may begin to change now, or would it be that the NRA are a big enoughy entity to maintain their position ?

I doubt very much if anything will change, there are few mentions of Columbine but the furore over Janet Jackson plopping a chubby out at the superbowl rages on!

God bless America!

Strange isnt it.
Israel and Switzerland have far far higher gun ownership, but less gun crime.
On the other hand Guatamala and Mexico have draconian gun laws, but far higher rates of gun crime.
I wont even mention Alderney.

Its not as if you need the same vetting process for a license in Switzerland either! show up with a drivers license and thats it !!...dunno about gun crime in Israel though!! I'd say it was pretty high.. on a different level albeit for different reasons ofcourse

Anyways when do you think some US states will tighten up? Whats going to be the lever that tips them over the edge. The UK has two major mass killings by Michael Ryan, and Thomas Hamilton, firstly semi auto rifles are banned apart from .22's, then after Dunblane, all handguns, a bizarre situation in its self.. that after Hungerford, you could still posess legally a .50 automatic 8 shot concelable pistol, but a .30 M1 was already banned at that time, .. now virtually all are gone.

After all the latest US troubles, who will start to shout if the NRA dont have such a strong voice ?

For the record Im not some anti gun lobbyist.. or a news of the world reporter for that matter

Yes, he was. He did a huge amount of work for civil rights, even working back as far as MLK. He did a lot to repair the reputation of the NRA and numerous other charitable work. He always struck me as a very humble but powerful man. My favorite quote by him when he announced he had "oldtimers" disease was " if I tell the same joke twice then please forgive me".

He was a great one and will be missed.

It always amazes me at how people so naive to think that additional and more restrictive gun control laws are somehow going to reduce gun crimes.

Real gun control is hitting what you're aiming at - like this guy does;
