It looks to me as though there is another guy that falls out and is swept over by the tail. But its hard to tell.

He pulled up too much and clipped the tail rotor, the aircraft landed and then the main rotor span the thing up.

I would say that they suffered a gearbox failure on the tail rotor drive, so the torgue from the main rotors went into a spin. Not much the pilots could do at that height.

If you slow it down, look at the angle he hit (with some force) Also the rotor looks damaged??????

I reckon the bloke who jumped out ducked too.

He'd already set the collective, which is why i ignored it, it was the cyclic he cocked up.

The story behind the helicopter crash is that it was a French Police Special Forces Demo which went very badly wrong. The Puma (can't remember the Frence name, so calling it by the UK name) came in at too steep an approach angle and "flaired" too late, or in other words the pilot left it to late to slow the descent.

The tail rotor protection bar hit the ground and smashed (which can be viewed later on in the film just hanging on), and the tail hit the ground. One totaled tail rotor system and a rather top-heavy heli results in it trying to dig for New Zealand

Note the co-pilot has his left arm out the window as he comes into land

Regards Tim

Le Puma?

Anyway - if I was a terrorist and I saw the French Special Forces come in like that I'd sh*t myself!
