Coastguard earn international recognition
The team at Falmouth Coastguard are celebrating after their work in international search and Rescue was recognised by the world’s leading Maritime affairs body.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) announced this week that Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre has been recognised, alongside Stavanger in Norway, for its work across the globe. The Secretary General has proposed that a special certificate be awarded under its Bravery at Sea Awards.
A spokesman said: “In endorsing this award the 106th session of the Council of the International Maritime Organisation has acknowledged the dedicated performance and continued display of professionalism over many years.”
The news is a boost for the Falmouth based team, who have spent the last seven months fighting to retain their status during a reorganisation of the UK coastguard by the government.
