Crompton cleared

http://www.bostonstandard.co.uk/news...-of.3930455.jp

Just saw this article

"A MAN accused of setting up a company to continue the work of a couple who supplied high speed boats to international drug smugglers has been found not guilty."

I must say I am pleased he got off - with all the crazy new laws on money laundering etc they are trying to criminalise everyone. a few years ago the bloke would have won a queen's Award for Export!!!

I hope so they seem to think they are above the law. Remember the time they were illegally seizing people's cars on booze cruises even though the people weren't breaking the law? Even the ferry companies ended up taking them to court!!!

It's a great verdict for smugglers everywhere.

Did anyone notice Mrs. Sarkozy smuggling peanuts into Windsor Castle?

I doubt they have sold any of his/Nautexco's property in relation to this as it would likely have been evidence in the case and not declared as the proceeds of crime prior to the conclusions of the case.

CP's thread title was a bit misleading as Crompton weren't cleared, Nautexco/Ian Rush were. Presumably any kit sold by customs was Crompton/Neil Davidon/Ellen George property.

Indeed... Ellen George pleaded guilty to money laundering, and is awaiting sentencing, Davison is reported to be still on bail awaiting trial for drug smuggling offences.

amazing. you got 1.5 million of drug money in your house and you get a two year suspended sentence after a 5 year customs investigation. to say nothing of defrauding the revenue for big bucks.

Her defence was that she thought she was selling the boats to tobacco smugglers, the court heard. She said she did as she was told by her partner and was not any good at accounting.
So that's all right then.

and that was just the tip of the iceberg. I trust the 142 properties in Lowestoft have all been sold by HMRC. Must be good for £10-15million.

I don't think you can defend someone assisting drug smugglers, and stealing taxes from all of us.

Fraud generally requires an element of deciept for unlawful gain... ...in general the revenue are not decieving people (but opperate openly at taking your taxes) and are not acting unlawfully.

You might not agree with the policies - but that doesn't make it fraudulent.

IF that's what they were doing fair enough but plenty of car dealers etc sell cars and vans that are used for smuggling.

Remember they also used to supply the Police and Customs etc.

As to stealing taxes again the government is doing that all the time - Jaqui Smith has managed to get away with £120,000 and she's the Home Secretary - wether it's fraudulent or not is a matter of opinion!!!
