Before you start wailing about "Orwellian controls", pause for a moment to consider the advantages. Firstly, it's relatively painless. I injected them into five cats and they only struggled briefly and I didn't feel a thing (welder's gauntlets ). The chips are light, could be injected in the buttocks (the cyclist's highest point, good for TX/RX) and wouldn't affect streamlining - so may be quite popular.
After that, it's just a matter of each concerned driver fitting a transceiver kit to their vehicle. As a cyclist enters a set perimeter, the chip would activate a beep and an AIS type screen could show which quadrant they are in. If you get too close, the system could activate the seat belt alarm or something. Their IDs would show on the screen, useful if they need to be fined etc.
I can see some potential teething problems - like persuading all cyclists to get the tags in. I would expect them to kick up a bit, but it would benefit society as a whole - a bit like the tagging of sex offenders. There might be some who would try and "free cycle" but they would quickly stand out as the non-beeping riders. Selected motorists (like Bigmuz7) could be issued with Tag-Sticks (a small gas-operated chip injector) and encouraged to "tag" the offenders as they overtake at red lights.
Still, it's all how these things are marketed. After the stunning boom in Geo-caching, the most pointless pursuit know to man, I'd not be surprised if they couldn't be persuaded to line up for the tags. Maybe fit roadside transceivers and link them back to a website called www.seehowfariwenttoday.com or suchlike?
It's all to play for and the benefits to the peolpe who actually PAY for the roads are enormous. Somesome should start one of those ePetitions.

funny
looking at your cats facial expression it does seem incredibly relaxed to say that it his having something implanted up it's jacksie in the willk lab. I would have expected a bit more grimacing

Probably - I've never used it. There are probably more appropriate ways of sharing rib trips (I believe Strava does some clever stuff to split your journey into segments and identify hills etc). The idea of strava is to compete with strangers on time - whereas most ribs aren't 'racing' and therefore wouldn't be so obsessed with times or following exact routes. It has been alleged that some people may have use Strava in a car or on a motorbike / scooter to create "unbeatable times".

THAT'S where you're going wrong. The most effective way of herding cats is just to shoot them if they cross the line.
Eventually, you have a pile of dead cats, neatly herded.
With the use of a few of these you can create quite an impressive synchronised herd.

I like your thinking but no.... its a lot simpler... its a reciprocal rule .. a casual stroll on a cycle path with a dog on a lead ... a long lead... causes cycling outrage
They see these places as their 'freeways' where pedestrians are not permitted .... oh .. my .. how the tables are turned

There are good and bad cyclists.......the same as for drivers of cars, vans, trucks and cabs.
The thing is that whilst everybody just gets irate and/or is ignorant the cycling fraternity that want to have a go INSIST that they have some sort of priority.
That's what gets my back up. It's as if they have been wronged whilst doing everybody else a service and putting themselves out whilst being so gracious.
Angry cabby, pissed off van driver on the phone, mum that can't see over her XC90 steering wheel.........water off a ducks back.
Lycra, tap shoes, blinding badly adjusted strobes ( if any lights at all ), jumping red lights and above all that w*nky attitude.
Makes me want to drive about 20 yards ahead of them, open the passenger door and slam on the brakes.
Still on the OT...........can't stand them.

Late yesterday afternoon on the ferry slip on the Fowey side of the Fowey I watched a RIB launch that had been over-enthusiastically unsecured from it's trailer. The backing into the water was a bit cocky and resulted in said vessel taking to the water and floating off. Luckily the ferry was en route to Bodinnick and the RIB was arrested by hire pleasure boat. They were good enough to hold it against the current while a rescuer/owner swam out and ended up paddling her back to the slip with the aid of the hire boat. Sorry chaps no pics, even if I had it wouldn't be fair to post as it can happen to anybody. And I can't film myself swimming to my adrift SR!!!!!
Actually on this occasion I was sat in my car waiting for the ferry........but' I have been close to this.
It was a bit "Ealing Comedy" I have to say. Lots of people yelling followed by a car driver wading into the water and swimming after his boat with helpers uselessly chucking ropes at him. Thankfully the tow car didn't slowly roll into the water.

I went to college in Liverpool. When I turned up at my digs, the Toxteth Riots were on. Obviously all students were told to stay in, so I went to Toxteth to have a gander. Had a knife pulled on me by a nine year old and watched a cop car get rolled and torched.
That was my second day in Aigburth. 1988.
Love the place.
So south of the Mersey is out of the quezzie? Where is the source anyway?

If it's got launch wheels then they may end up somewhere else, but I doubt your RIB has them.
Is Moss Side as bad as it was?
