Donating to RNLI via ebay sales

Just tried to donate a chunk of a couple of auctions running for some tat from the garage.

Ebay won't allow me to donate unless I give them my debit/credit card details to hold on file!!
There's absolutely no way I'm giving them details like that to hang onto!

I'll stick it in a donation box instead-but that's no the point. Why do Ebay need my card details to donate to charity? Something is very wrong about that.

Do you mean Ebay or Paypal? You HAVE to give all your bank details etc to have a PayPal account - there is no problem they are just the same as any bank.
I have used Paypal for years and no probs but the fees are quite high.

No, I mean Ebay themselves. I have a fully verified paypal account. Ebay themselves have absolutely no need to hold my card details.

I wouldn't trust ebay to give the money, I'd rather stick it in the box!
Thanks for the donation Mollers.

I think I'm right in saying they like to have your details on file so they can automatically take money from you at the end of each month for seller fees. I used to do this, and if I recall you couldn't remove your card once it was on there! I just use paypal to pay it off now.
