So for those of us who don't have a sustainable forest on our doorstep or a river running through our garden to provide hydro-electric power or neighbours who won't complain if I erected a wind turbine or a wife who 10 years ago said "I'm not having those on the roof", we have to think of more mundane things to try and reduce energy cost.
A very simple thing I have done is to alter the length of time I have the boiler on to heat the hot water. We used to have the boiler on timed for 30 mins each day to heat the hot water. I reduced it to 20 mins every day, but we always ran out if hot water by the end of the day. Over the past month, I've changed that to heating the water for 40 mins every other day, and for what ever reason we don't run out of hot water. 10 mins per day saving doesn't seem much but its a saving of 30%.
Not a lifestyle change, no big grand infrastructure or costly outlay, just a tweaks but it's saved 30% of our hot water cost.

Stoves installed and tested, they are excellent. Now have 4 operational chimneys in the house with 2 open fires and 2 stoves. Next, have to see if I can accumulate enough wood before the winter…..

Any of you chaps seen this ?

https://solartogether.co.uk/landing

Caveat emptor and all that , but it's supposed to be a solar energy bulk buying initiative , endorsed by several local councils .

They are mooting savings of up to 40% on purchase of new panels . Now if the price of electrickery is to triple it may just change the economics of the investment ( typical payback times often quoted presently as 13 to 21 years ).

You can just " express an interest "with absolutely no commitment .

Got three large trees to take down here and process this summer...With One log burner and (at least) one more to go in ...certainly adds to the incentive!
Total long term mismanagement of energy stratagy by the whole of the "West" ...will take decades to repair!...and just watch the whole spectrum of governments twist and turn like Slugs in Salt...to shift blame and double down on their madness
Just HOPE food production and procurement doesn't go the same way!...you really couldn't make it up.
