Whats even more disturbing is apple trying to buy of complainents .. or threaten them with legal action if they talk .. google it .. they dont want a mass recall for the li ion batteries

Given the number of laptops, ipods etc in circulation and the number that actually blow up it is hardly a common occurrence either. In the case of your video, and the original post they didn't "burst into flames with no warning at all". The Youtube video obviously new something was wrong, and the OP referred to it getting too hot to hold.

Yes but you wouldn't be holding the battery pack in your car would you???

Remember all the films where a car goes over a cliff and blows up on impact? Doesn't happen in the real world - but I bet it will with battery packs!!!

ffs can we get back to Apple and the fact they wont recall ipods or iphones, and they have tried to hush those that have had failures
