Fat tax
My Uncle just called me from the UK to tell me that Brussels has introduced a new "Fat Tax" Certain foods with above a certain level of fat will have extra tax charged. Example: Pork Pies.
Please tell me this is not true

I didn't think you paid any tax on food. But if they are going to charge extra for fatty foods how about this time giving us something back for more healthy foods. The Fat Tax could subsidise Healthy foods and in effect be a real and genuine neutral Tax with no hidden agendas.

Confused. I thought very few foods have Tax on them.
When you shop at Macro the bill shows the foods that have Tax on them. It seems to be very few types and tends to be the luxuries such as some sweets.
Am I wrong ( Again !)

Not wrong really - how can you be expoected to keep up with all the stupid EU laws in this country???
Only "luxury" foods are supposed to be taxed - cakes are NOT taxed - choc covered biscuits are - Jaffa cakes were fought over by the VAT man for years!!!

Come off it Limey... Nothing could be more frustrating when in the States ( and especially Canada ( Quebec) - you end up paying tax on tax.
I was in Montreal last year ,how did it go,? somthing like this
cost of a beer 2$.50( cdn)
local tax ( + 7%)
state tax (+ 8%)
Airport reconstuction tax (+ 10%) ( Dorval)
Tip ( at your discretion - but if not > 2$ then DONT go back)
OK I think these %'s are not quite correct- but a thirsty belgium ended up paying some 5$ for 250 mls of cat's piss.
Give me a total cost marked clearly on a menue including service charges ANY DAY....
Jonathan

You are probably correct Cod. Most of the horror stories I have heard relate to after care and preventative care. Talking to a friend in Warsash; I was told that the NHS do not provide annual PSA test for men over 50. This is automatic in the US and if I had not had mine I would probably be dead in about a year.
