Fish smoker - what basic/cheap one do you recommend?
Any one recommend a cheap/basic fish smiker? Mainly for mackerel, but may branch out. I've seen numerous different types on ebay for £30-£50, just wondering which to get.

Pikey Dave has one not sure of the make but it did the job on our camping fishing tour 3 years back. I'm sure he will be along soon with the name of the make.

Do you want to hot smoke, or cold smoke? For hot smoking I just use an old pressure cooker, with a trivet in it, and a cheap gas camping stove. A packet of Aldi Hickory smoked chips and away you go. Perfect for a few Mackerel.

I've got a stainless steel smoker and loads of bags of wood chips if you want that in exchange for a Macmillan donation, not sure if it's what you want or how to get it to you.
It's the £50 fladen one but you can get them cheaper on ebay

I use an ABU stainless one .. its easy to clean and works well in or outdoors, but a little shelter is best. It will do 6, 9-10 inch Mackie fillets comfortably.

I use an Askari.de stainless smoker, but it's identical to the one Whisper's offering.

I built my own cold smoker (for bacon rather than fish.) Basically a plywood box (with a couple of vents), with an 18" length of 4" aluminum tube for a burner. Tube has a vented cap at the bottom, a screen just above that, and pipes into the box with a length of corrugated aluminum dryer vent hose. Pop the hose off the tube, fill with wood chunks (with some chips to get it started), replace the hose, and fire it up with a propane torch. Runs about 3 or 4 hours on a load of chunks, and the box seems to run about 1F to 5F degrees above ambient.
