Framed Charts

Does anybody know where I can get hold of a marine chart fitted with LED’s and framed.
The LED’s flash at the same rate as the light it represents. As seen in the café on Rathlin island and other places.
They make very good Christmas presents.

OK - its taken some serious googling (it sounded like a great idea) but I have managed to find:

http://www.lightedcharts.com/charts.html

Looks like they are US only - not sure if you have seen a UK equivalent?

3D charts

My brother makes some fantastic 3D sea charts.

These are built up using layers of actual admirality charts cut to the contours of the seabed. The land being the last layer is flat and you are left with a 3D view of the seabed showing all the trenches, reefs and individual heads (depending on scale chosen).

I'll get hold of pictures or get him to post some himself

Jono Garton has one in his training room in Pwllheli. I think it was made a s a one off, but he might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi Ezi, when is the Dublin Bat show on in FEB.

You are right about chap in Kinsale, I met him at he Boat show a few (maybe last year) years ago. He did mention that setting up the timing squence for the various Buoys was the time consuming bit. It is a simple timimg gate and not too difficult to make using ICs. I am sure that you can get exactly what you want from maplin if you wish to have a go yourself.
The Chart is bonded to the support board and lighted buoys are drilled and replaced with correct light LED bulbs.
They look really well and this person in kinsale is very good at them.
He suggested a cost to me of €750 for standard chart size if I recall correctly.
