That'll be why then. 9mpg isn't bad for that.

The fact that its not all trunk, are you thinking Nos, cos it travels empty half the time? I have an older 6 pot 240 that trounces it, it is a smaller motor but the consumption difference was a lot more that I expected. Not sure that the newer engine is as good

One success the last blockade achieved for me was that it just about cut my HGV taxes in half !! So maybe we should dig our heals in, since one of the main reasons prices keep going up is because we keep on paying for it, the suppliers have no competition and can demand what they like, so again some short term pain may yield some gain. I know oil is going up, but so is the tax take (like last month it went up again)

Odd-Scania are normally pretty good. We consistently used to average an extra MPG over the Volvos we ran. Saying that, from what I've seen the best for fuel consumption is DAF. Just avoid the autobox as it's appalling.

Most of my miles are motorway for a start which will make a dramatic difference. If I go out only on single carriageways I see consumption go up to 6mpg. 10mpg is only achieved trunking along the M4 where it's quite flat-and it's on cruise control most of the time.

Is the 240 a 28 tonner too?

I think the leisure industry underestimates what this could mean.. if it were to happen , ..but its not been confirmed it will happen yet ..has it ? Although given the current climate for increasing the tax take it seems inevitable. It will be treated as a consumable product , and there is the crux .. Fishing vessels, boats offering cruises, support vessels and (yachts used as taxis

) will claim exemption and this is why its difficult to implement ... and police ..and then.. before you know it ..taking your trawler to the fishing ground will be taxed as travelling to your work place

No its a 18,(I took the bolt out of the chassis

) but its consumption was nearer 17 mpg (if I remember rightly) But I didnt think adding 10 tonne GVW (when running laden) and an extra axle would have halved the mpg on an average basis with only a slightly bigger engine

I'm surprised. My old 93m 220 did 12.4 on average-and most of that was motorway.
