Hammond seriously hurt

Hope to God he pulls through. Seriously injured in a rocket/jet dragster today.

I used to find him really annoying but lately he's become a great sidekick to Clarkson!!!

This website is raising money for the air ambulance that took him to hospital.

Dunno if you guys are aware, but air ambulances are NOT funded by the government. They are all individual charities, staffed by hospital employees. These guys to a brilliant job, but all too often helicopters are grounded because they simply cannot afford to fly them.

Help out Yorkshire.

VERY VERY good point - and yet the government spends £3million per year for each Police helicopter which seem to spend most of their time chasing stolen cars worth about £300!!! More bobbies on the beat would be FAR better.

I checked on one Police heli website and they proudly boasted how their most successful operation lead to the speedy recovery of a stolen caravan - maybe they should have remained on the ground and bought a new one for the owner - £4000 per hour is quite a bit for us taxpayers to fork out!!!

Agreed - I have a colleague who is heavily involved with the Local air ambulance and the figures are staggering: £3.5 every time the crew is scrambled (even if the heli doesn't take off), nearer to £7k for every hour in the air and limited in-service lifetime of the heli itself after which it has to be scrapped. If the costs for the police are similar then you have to consider that this is one heck of an expense to chase several chavs in a Mk2 Escort
