Have you got a web site?
If you've got a web site about your RIB, then let me know and I'll add it to the RIBnet links page, along with RIB Panther, Dromedary and a few others already there.
As a trial, I am also willing to offer free web space for anyone who wants to start their own site (or move an existing one to our server). At the moment this is for personal sites only, relevant to RIBnet.
I can't offer much support as I don't have the time, but I can provide some disk space and an FTP account. You can use your own domain name or a ribnet one such as yourname.rib.net
If you're interested, let me know.
Cheers
John

The only reply on-thread!
John,
Good idea, now i have a little more time i was wondering about putting something together - wondering where to host it etc. i have a 5meg a/c for the sea scouts site but a bit 'a space, and FTP a/c and grayswish.rib.net would be great - i'll put something together over the next week.
e-mail or PM me about this i guess.
Daniel
Oh, HOW slow at the moment!
(could not resist)

John K,
Nice thought. I would like a rename to my web page though. Instead of "Michael (aka Bat Falcon) and family in Greece", I think "Bat Falcon (Michael's and family's) web site in Greece" is better. The idea is that more people recognize me as Bat Falcon than Michael.
Thanks a lot

Do you want to move your site away from Geocities and get rid of those pop-up ads? You can have batfalcon.rib.net if you like!

Link
Hi John,
I think the idea of web space is great!
For my own use, adding a link to www.waterscouts.org would be good. Already have Rib.Net in our links page! Description like " Water Activities for members of the Scout Association in Kent: including, powerboating (RIBs!), sailing, canoeing and windsurfing".
The forum has already let us meet Daniel and hopefully we will be working together soon.
Cheers,
Andy.

JK,
It's not a bad idea at all, although I 'll have to scratch build the whole site. I have already ordered a digital camera so it would be a nice pastime for the long winter nights. Well, since your offer is for free let's start by registering the site's name which must be "under construction" for a while.

Is this offer still available?
If so - can you reommend some software that isnt too expensive and easy to use?
We would love to have Topaz.rib.net if that is possible.

I presume you mean HTML software?
If you have Microsoft Word, you can use that for HTML. Not the greatest, but it does work. Also, try looking at Frontpage Express, freebie version of Microsoft Frontpage.
You could also take a look at , expensive yes, but has a 30 day free trial available Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Or, alternatively, you could just learn HTML and do it in notepad, which is my personal favourite way!

There's loads of free FTP software available. Have a look at:
http://www.sofotex.com/download/FTP_Software/
In the old days of Win3.11/95 I used to use "Cute FTP"
Otherwise just use what's built into the operating system. I use an FTP "network place" in Windows2000. I think Windows for TeleTubbies (ie XP) also has similar functionality. Sorry I can't remember what 98 or ME supports.
HTH
Rich.

For FTP I use SmartFTP, although IE is perfectly useable for it. Some of the HTML apps have built in FTP support too.
"Windows for Tellytubbies", bah, it's the best version once you turn off all that yucky fancy themes rubbish. XP Pro that is, havent tried Home.
