>>> burning wet wood is more canceragenic??
>>>log stove. I’ll give it 10 years before they are banned in built up areas
Do you guys know the new regs being phased in over the next couple of years? Straight house coal will be banned and restrictions put on wood sales. Only kiln dried wood will be sold unless you are able to take a commercial type quantity of 2 cubic metres plus (about three builders bulk sand bags worth) and then the onus is on the seller to ensure you know it is sold for drying not immediate burning.
For those that can get a load from their friendly tree surgeon and store/dry it themselves no change but for the typical renovated house in town with a woodburner and not much storage then you are down to small loads of very expensive kiln dried wood being all you can buy.
Like PD I think the regs surrounding woodburners and wood may tighten further so if I was investing in a "woodburner" installation today I'd make sure it was a multifuel type and a good stove for burning fuels like we use shown in post #10.

we have only had our burner a year now but in that time our monthly gas bill has come down to about 50% of what it was and we are over £500 in credit with them purely because of the central heating not being on .we only burn kiln dried from a local seller its £80 for a very full builders dumpy bag and this winter we have used 6 bags . our burner is rated to the very latest upcoming regs . so even taking into account the price of wood we are saving money every cold day

>>>because of the central heating not being on
We prefer the atmosphere of stove heat too... you're getting the air change unlike static central heating air. We've had some form of stove or open fire in every house for the past 40+yrs. Similar to you our stove shuts down the gas central heating and the stove heat goes into the hallway and a little into the other rooms plus up the stairs to the landing. So yep quite economic as well as the preferred heat.

As an aside, I've just ordered 1300L of heating oil from Boiler Juice @21p/litre, this time last year it was 45p/Litre !!!! My usual supplier is quoting 31p/litre.
They (Boiler Juice) also have a promotion on at the moment, if you refer a friend you both get an extra £10 off. If you're thinking of ordering, drop me a PM & I'll give you the details.

Or if possible, have a proper bayonet gas fitting installed to the side of the finished fire surround so you can have a gas poker. They are great for starting the fire, and being on a bayonet fixing, can be removed when fire is alight.

I would like to isolate the dead-leg. But i only have one 22mm gas pipe going into the concrete floor, and 3 exit points in the house. A friend who is gas safe has advised it should be atleast 600mm away. Not sure i want to dig up 8m of concrete floor to see if there is a tee joint.

I just spoke to a gas engineer regarding a flat my daughter is refurbishing we are planning on raising the floor level using kingspan with a cement screed over I rang the gas engineer to ask was it best to run the 22mm gas pipe in the kingspan or screed (with a denso wrap) his reply was you cant bury a gas pipe with a join, it has to be done in plastic coated with no joins. Obviously your installation was done to old regs having at least two tees buried, it may be time to think about re routing for safety sake
